Actually there are requirements to become a DJ based on age, amount of LEGAL music files of suitable quality both in sound and in content, and availability to fill the minimal amount of hours each DJ is required to fulfill each week. But this is not automatic. DJ's need to meet a certain level of maturity and professionalism and be able to get along with the other staff members.
Aside from that, Music is "moderated" by the DJ as they are responsible for the content of the music they play on their show. As long as it meets the standard of the radio, they are allowed to play it. DJ's with the proper editing programs will also edit their songs should they contain inappropriate content.
As for the "Kids Site", people of all ages are Welcome to use this site and keeping in mind this is a kid-friendly site, the radio does take that into consideration.
The music played on FooRadio was as diverse as the listener interest was. There was not a set playlist as this would severely limit what can be played and would turn it into just another top 40 station you can find anywhere on the web. FooRadio prided itself in being able to satisfy the needs of the majority of listeners, not just the few who are hung up on only a small amount of music. So if this concept was to meet the requirements of the owners of this site, the same kind of format would go over very well for a larger amount of people who would listen on a regular basis.
There were often THEME shows where a DJ would feature a certain kind of music for that hour. This idea goes over very well as it offers an awesome variety that you just wont find on any common radio station be it FM or Web Radio.
Another thing the radio prided itself on was the interaction between the DJ's, Staff, and the listeners. This is what takes this radio to a higher level. The listeners are often included in the shows through reading their requests and through other ways such as forum posts.
Please continue to show support to those who are considering this. Please understand that nothing has been decided and all decisions on that will be between the site administrators and the persons involved who would actually run the radio.
On a personal note, being one who has been involved in internet radio since 2009, I believe this would be a wonderful thing for this site, for its members, and will allow the awesome team of FooRadio to have place to shine as they have in the past.
Yay for RadioSmoothie - Hope it becomes a reality!
