Some quick history.
Armistice Day (also known as Remembrance Day) is on 11 November and commemorates the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I, which took effect at eleven o'clock in the morning—the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918. While this official date to mark the end of the war reflects the cease fire on the Western Front, hostilities continued in other regions, especially across the former Russian Empire and in parts of the old Ottoman Empire.

The date was declared a national holiday in many allied nations, to commemorate those members of the armed forces who were killed during war. An exception is Italy, where the end of the war is commemorated on 4 November, the day of the Armistice of Villa Giusti.

After the end of World War II, most Armistice Day events were moved to the nearest Sunday and began to commemorate both World Wars. The change was made in many Commonwealth countries, as well as the United Kingdom, and the new commemoration was named Remembrance Sunday or Remembrance Day.

I did the two minutes. When you think about it, people were willing to give their entire lives for our freedom, and all we do is take two minutes a year to really remember them. Thank you, vets, R.I.P. to those that were unlucky enough to die fighting for what you believed in :3

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Don't you dare look out your window, darling
Everything's on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold onto this lullaby
Even when the music's gone

I did not stay silent for two minutes, because I do honor my country's (USA) veterans quite often, and I show my respect to them in other ways. I have been to the graveyard in Flanders Field and its museum. I have also participated in a flag-raising ceremony on the very beach of Normandy in France, walked through the Normandy American Cemetery, and been to the museum dedicated to the United States in France. I honor Dwight D. Eisenhower by supporting his dream for a world of understanding.

Meh, if someone doesn't want to do it, just don't say anything. It's their loss if they don't feel like respecting the brave men and women that fought and died for them for just two minutes. o3o

Anyway, I was the only one in my family that participated. Everyone else was kinda upset with each other. I'll wait until 11:11 tonight when the baby is asleep and everyone is calm.

My whole school did.
We went back to tutor early, (we normally have break from ten to, till ten past eleven) and had our silence there.
There's no way we could get away with not doing it; the town the school's in is a military one, and almost everyone who lives there knows someone who's died fighting for our country.
We've also got a huge population of Nepalese families, almost all having served in the Gurkhas/serving now.
<3
I can't stand it when people muck about during the two minute silence. It disgusts me.

I was at an event at eleven o'clock this morning, so I'll have to take my moment of silence at eleven tonight.
