Dale Farm Evictions

well you have probably seen the news about the Dale Farm evictions. But what do you think about them? Do you think that the travelers are being mistreated and should be allowed to stay, or do you think the police have the right to kick them off the land? Please post your view, but I do not want any arguments. A friendly debate is welcome though.

Personal View:
I think the travelers are doing things illegal. They were told clearly that they were only allowed a certain number of homes on half of the area. They put more homes on half of the area, and more on the area that they were not allowed to. Even if you are a traveler the law still applies to you as well. It is not injustice, it is just the law.

I've heard about this.
I personally don't think that they should be evicted. These are people's lives that are being destroyed. Yes they are travellors, but these days, travellors aren't what the stereotype depicts.
Amnesty said that there had been "a lack of genuine consultation consistent with international human rights standards on options for alternative culturally adequate housing for those affected."
Its their home, and they are being forced out of it.

I don't suppose that you have seen the program "Big Fat Gypsy Wedding?" It shows how much gypsies are being discriminated against, and it is just unacceptable. I bet, that if they weren't gypsies, then this wouldn't be happening. It is a disgraceful act of humanity.

Yeah, I've seen it. Those wedding dresses were amazing!

And I understand where you are getting at. But they didn't have the right to be on that land. They didn't have planning permission to build on it, what they were doing was illegal

I think they should be evicted. They were given terms to abide by, didn't follow them, and that would be the punishment for not following the terms.
Some of the protesting they are doing is pretty grotesque and awful. A girl chained herself to the gate by her neck and if they opened it, the girl would die.
Now they are wanting £2million pounds to move, apparently.
That's just greedy.

And I think scum is a bit harsh, they can get annoying. They think the law doesn't apply to them because they are travelers, they don't even travel!!

If they are refusing to move but proudly call themselves travellers, it's pretty contradicting.
For christs sake, according to the BBC they've been there for ten years anyway.
That ain't travelling.

It's quite simple. The Baliffs gave the travelers half of a piece of land to build on. Saying they could have 31 houses on it. The travelers put 31 house son that piece of land, then another 50 on the other half of land they weren't supposed to. Then when the Baliffs said they had to get off the peice of land they weren't supposed to be on they decided to protest.
