refurbished or not

Postby Symphonic » Sun Oct 16, 2011 11:56 am

here's the deal, i'm looking at an mp3 player, Cowon X7 to be exact.
no this isn't an Apple vs. EVERYTHING ELSE thread.
Amazon has two options at the moment, $280ish new or $210ish refurbished.
now i'm no expert, but i vaguely know what refurbished is.
however, i've heard some pretty bad things happen from refurbished products.

a friend bought a 2d gen iPod Nano refurbished, battery failure 6 months later.
and to replace the battery would cost as much as buying a brand new, updated iPod nano.
then i've read things about refurbished PS3s that stop reading any discs after a couple weeks.
so i'm wondering if it's really a good idea to go for $80 less rather than buy new.

any super good experiences with it?
super bad?

if this isn't the place to ask, mods just lock and i'll copypaste to wherever it fits better.

Umm :U
I wouldn't trust any refurbished products....for only an 80$ off discount,I would just buy a new one :c
Plus my bad experience with a refurbished product was about three years ago, we bought two products,an 0 scale response train set and a game cube, both melted as soon as we turned then on, just went "pow,pow-melts-"

Being an electronic geek, I'd have to say that your best bet is going to be getting one brand new. My uncle bought me a 'refurbished' iPod and it completely blew up on me... It's much safer and less expensive in the long run to get the new one. :]

that's kinda what i figured
but since my dad has bought just about all of his cameras new and, other than the stuff that they go through with him [ex. getting completely soaked with water] they work perfectly and have for years.

there's probably a difference between cameras and hard drives though i guess.
thanks!
