Becaus famous people are -surprise- well known.
If they die, it simply wakes the interest of more people.
Do you expect users to make a thread for every dead person they have heard of?
Like "Some 34-years-old man in Norway died from a heart attack yesterday"?
If a baby dies from a disease, someone will probably open a thread dedicated to all people who died of said disease; if a child gets killed by it's own father, it will get a headline in local newspapers and if the case is interesting all over the country, and you might post a thread about it, again dedicated to all people who suffered similar fates.
nd if someone who's prominent dies, he or she gets a thread and a headline because they are so well-known that many people will be talking about it.
It's something that can't be changed, and it doesn't have to. Nothing's wrong with it.
That we posted on this thread doesn't mean that we dont care for other people as well.
I hope you understand what I'm trying to say, because I fail at explaining things.
And with saying that Jobs wasn't important you're basically going against your own idea of everyone being of equal importance.
