All depends on your pain level.
I've broken my leg and my ankle (not at the same time) on the same side of my body. The leg was when I was 6, nice dare to jump off the dock into the pond. Landed in the same spot as everyone else, but I found a large solid rock or something to land on. Leg felt weird, didn't realize it was broken until the 6th time I tried to stand up and couldn't. No joke, I repeatedly try to stand on it. My aunt was in tears and a wreck, while I was calm, in some pain, but trying to sooth her. >.<
My ankle I broke last year, almost to the day. Sept. 26 to be exact; Whale Watching in rough seas. 3 foot waves, one hit the boat. It went up, but when it was going back down, I was still in the air (holding onto the railing on the bow for dear life in the middle of the deck), boat hit another wave and came up quick as I started my fall. My husband, dad, and mom all thought I hit my head or my jaw with the way I fell. My feet hit the deck and my ankles bent as I went back to avoid hitting my face on the rail. I felt a pop, but since my joints pop frequently I didn't think much of it. I thought I sprained my ankle at first, but I couldn't stand. I remembered when I was little, and only attempted 2 times. After that, my dad and husband helped me back inside and to lay down on a bench. Well unbeknownst to me, some guy behind my mom and my son made some snide remark about me (because I'm overweight) and my mom chewed him out.
The ride to the hospital was jarring, I think we hit every pot hole imaginable. I was rushed over to fast track...which really wasn't that fast at all. Seriously, I got there at around 3 pm, and by 9 pm I still hadn't seen a doctor, nurse, or even an aid! Oh and to make things worse, I had absolutely no pain medication yet. Nothing. Finally I got a series of X-Rays and an air cast/boot since it wasn't serious enough to need surgery or a plaster cast. I was on my way home a little after midnight. My son had just turned 4, and here he was up past midnight. ARG!
Oh, and I might have gotten a prescription for pain medication, but there wasn't anything open that late. Oh did I suffer that night.
