When people insist that they're arachnophobic so they freak out when they see a CS spider. Okay, maybe in a rare, severe case that might be true, but it's a cartoony spider on a computer screen. They're not realistic at all!

And on that note, people who don't realize that there is, in fact, a difference between fears and phobias.

Fear, as defined by Wikipedia: Fear from the Greek: φόβος,phóbos, meaning "fear" or "morbid fear", is a distressing negative sensation induced by a perceived threat. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger. In short, fear is the ability to recognize danger and flee from it or confront it, also known as the Fight or Flight response.

They are NOT the same thing. You do not have coulrophobia if you are afraid of clowns. You have coulrophobia if clowns induce an anxiety attack in you.

When I see vomit, I freeze up, start breathing rapidly, ans usually try to run. Crying happens. I sometimes scream if I'm in a tight space with it. Always, always, I fear for my life when I see vomit. It is irrational. I am an emetophobe. I try to avoid germs and wash my hands frequently so I don't get sick. I am NOT a germaphobe.
