Virus/Computer help, please?

Postby Adelle » Sun Jun 12, 2011 4:16 am

I know this is *probably* in the wrong section, but nobody has really looked at my other topic in the right thread.

I *think* I have a cybot/zboter virus and I'm trying to get rid of it. I have already downloaded Malwarebytes and am running a scan and it hasn't picked anything up yet. (Avast says I have 20 infected files) I have no what to do and how to get rid of the virus. I really need help and I'd rather not have to re-install the operating system.

Thanks in advance.

Details: I have a PC and Windows Vista

I'd recommend getting Norton. But you have to pay for it and wait for the disc to come in the mail :\
Unfortunately I've had lots of problems with viruses on my computer but I recently installed it and it not only fixed my existing problems but I also haven't had any problems since and it alerts you when it's removed something potentially malicious on your computer. I was going to recommend Malwarebytes because that helped me once also, but it seems you already have...has the scan finished yet? Usually at the end it will get rid of the problem.

We used to have Norton and we hated it. xP It made our computer slower and it just seemed like a big waste.
I'd rather not re-install everything (I'm trying to get rid of this without my mom knowing) I just started a full scan, so that's going to take a while...
I'm going nuts trying to get rid of it and the problem is, I have no clue how I got it. n.n

Oh really? Hmm it works fine on mine.
Well I guess all I can say is wait until the scan is done and hopefully that fixes it. I did have McAfee on my computer before and it didn't do a thing when I got viruses so I uninstalled it. Sorry I couldn't be of much help, I'm bad with technology :\ And it hates me too, so....

Thanks for trying though. ^.^
Same here, electronics dislike me also. Dx
My brother and I are having to come to the fact that we have to tell mom and try to fix it ourselves. Or, we're going to try to have to pay for it ourselves. We don't really have the money to, but it looks like it's the only solution.
I just don't want my mom to get mad and say that the computer is only for school again and that I'm not allowed on...

I know the feeling, my mom gets pissed because she's had to call and get my laptop fixed over the phone several times because of viruses. (Have you ever done that before? You have to pay but the computer company will fix it over the phone.) And each time it takes hours and she can barely understand them T.T Actually the very first virus I got over a year ago, my whole laptop froze up, she had to ship it off and pay a ridiculous amount of money to get it fixed because it couldn't even turn on, then wait for it to come back which took a long time. Hopefully none of that happens to you. DX
But like I said, technology is out to get me. My computer hates me, my brand new headphones just broke for no apparent reason, the tv remote hates me, I can barely work a can opener...so on and so forth.

AVG antivirus? It's free and does a good job. Avast! should be able to do something with the virus - can it at least quarantine it?
