Severe thunderstorm warnings?

I am really freaking out right now because There is a bad thunderstorm here in New York and I have my first flock of chickens outside for the fifth day and I'm afraid something bad will happen because the wind is at least 50 miles an hour I'm guessing more than that. Every second there is lightning, not even over-exaggerating, I see the bolt of lightning and I'm really freaking out right now!!! any help?

As long as your in your house, your safe from lighting. Your chickens are very close to the ground, so I wouldn't be worried about them being struck by lightning.

I feel SO bad for you.I completly freak out with any kind of strom,everr since this one really bad strom was supposed to hit us in Georgia.I would advise putting your chickens in a coop if you have one,and unpliging all electrical stuff.And put all of your valubles in a basement or a closet. Try to read and do other stuff to get your mind off it.

Thanks for the advice everyone! The storm is gone, but there is is still the occasional flash of lightning on the here on the east coast. My chickens are aways in their coop unless I let them out. About 10 yards from my house is a huge tree and if it fell it would land either on my chicken coop or my house. I got worried because I heard the groaning. Once when I was little, a bad hurricane was here I forget which one, and a tree fell one my house. I was looking out the window and a bolt of lightning struck a huge tree, I think it was over 100 years old. It landed on me, and if a piece of plywood hadn't landed directly above me and wedged itself between my closet and bed and created a sort of "shelter" that kept some of the debris away, I might have been killed. So I'm a little freaked out by storms now.
