Thanks for the advice everyone! The storm is gone, but there is is still the occasional flash of lightning on the here on the east coast. My chickens are aways in their coop unless I let them out. About 10 yards from my house is a huge tree and if it fell it would land either on my chicken coop or my house. I got worried because I heard the groaning. Once when I was little, a bad hurricane was here I forget which one, and a tree fell one my house. I was looking out the window and a bolt of lightning struck a huge tree, I think it was over 100 years old. It landed on me, and if a piece of plywood hadn't landed directly above me and wedged itself between my closet and bed and created a sort of "shelter" that kept some of the debris away, I might have been killed. So I'm a little freaked out by storms now.
