I remember when S first showed me to you. I felt a connection. Since then, I visit you every time that I go to the farm. I love you Riley, so much, and I wish that G would just half-lease you to someone (me). I wish you were mine, but that’s never going to happen. I don’t care that you have scars, I don’t care that you aren’t the fancy warmblood that I dreamed of, I don’t care – because I love you. And I’ve never felt that way with any horse before. Not with H1, or H2, or H3. I love all of them, but I don’t feel the connection that I feel with you. This only comes once in a lifetime. I haven’t even ridden you, but I need you. I missed you when you were gone at the show. I miss you when I’m not at A.
I will find a way to ride you, to love you. Because I love you. I wish that I could stroke your shoulder, I wish that I could brush you, I want to walk around the farm with you beneath me. I want to soar over those 3 foot oxers, I want to love you. But I don’t think that’s ever going to be possible.
I didn’t even know that you were so talented, but that just makes me love you more. Some people may disregard you because you’re an almost off the track thoroughbred, and you have scars, and you aren’t a fancy warmblood – and honestly, I probably would’ve used to. But I’ve realized that when choosing a horse, you’re looking for a friend, not a winning machine.
