Lucid Dreams

Postby tigerwolf » Thu May 05, 2011 5:51 am

I've been, like, really interested in lucid dreams since I looked information about them online and learned a little bit about it so I decided to see if anyone else is interested and start this thread! It's a place where you can share your experiences, knowledge, tips and warnings, or ask questions and answer some too!

So, what is a lucid dream?

A lucid dream is when you become aware you are dreaming and are then able to control yourself and do whatever you want!

How do you lucid dream?

There are many ways to train yourself to lucid dream, but the method I have been using is doing frequent reality checks whenever something seems out of the ordinary, and just at random times of the day, so I would naturally do this in my dreams, so I would be able to realize that it is, in fact, a dream. Some examples of reality checks are checking to see if the time stays consistent when you look away and look back, checking if what you're reading stays the same after looking away and looking back, jumping a few times to see if you hover (this is how you fly in dreams), holding your nose and trying to breathe, and just making sure everything around you is normal and real.

An experience of lucid dreaming I had was where I was in my kitchen, and knowing I was dreaming, began experimenting with some of the activities I read about such as levitating, shape-shifting, and teleporting. I was successfully able to hover around, but when I tried shape shifting into a dog, I just couldn't get the feel of it, and when I tried teleporting, I tried to spin into nothingness and to another room, but I just ended up waking myself up. I guess I just need a little more practice :P

I have never had a lucid dream. Even on the rare occasions that I am aware of the fact that I am dreaming, I have never been able to control my dreams. When was your first lucid dream? How long did you have to do the reality checks before you were able to do it in your dreams?

I've had dreams where I am aware that I am dreaming..but I never thought of flying or shapeshifting...
I'll try that next time I realize I'm dreaming! :D

The only times I've been able to control what i do in a dream is when i have the same dream over and over and i can change it (usually only the smallest bit like if i fall off a cliff then i float) The other time i dreamed i was in a maze and i could control myself...but i woke up in the middle of it.

Ooh I love lucid dreaming! I've always been interested by it too, and I'm hoping to buy a book about it soon. I've had a few before but I can't really remember much. I have never intentionally been able to induce one, but it's so much fun. I love being in control of my dreams...if only it happened more often x3 Maybe I'll learn how to encourage lucid dreams eventually.

Sometimes I'll be dreaming and I'll halfway know that I'm dreaming and then something will happen in the dream and I'll think, "No, that's not how it happened..." and then I'll change the dream to whatever I feel like. Is that lucid dreaming?

I really only had to do the reality checks for a few days before I had that lucid dream, but that might have just been lucky. I think I've had a few lucid dreams before but I probably didn't realize it and thought nothing of it, so this was my first major lucid dream. I also started a dream journal to keep track of what goes on in my dreams and help me remember them (writing down dreams or saying them out loud helps train the brain to remember dreams more) And, Annalee, I'm not sure if that would completely be considered a lucid dream but I guess it would be something like that because you were able to control your dream as you wanted.

I recall a lot of my dreams. And I often realize I'm dreaming. I've also lucid dreamt quite a bit. I started actively trying to remember my dreams many years ago. Before I open my eyes I'll think about my dreams. I love dreams. And lucid dreaming is fun when I can do it properly. A lot of times I have the problem of waking up once I start changing too much or overthinking things. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to remember my dreams too clearly lately.

I have recently begun working on lucid dreaming. What I do is draw a little A on my hand, and whenever I see it I remember to do a reality check. I've had one so far, and it was so much fun XD
I could be wrong, though.
