People who go on about how pop songs aren't "real" music, then go on about how much better Paramore/MCR/-insert other popular rock bands here- are and how great they are for having "good" taste in music.

Unless I'm missing something here, I'm fairly certain that just about anything you hear on the radio is going to fit this definition, therefore it's music. I'm also not seeing any thing about specific people being able to determine what is and is not music.

Besides, the above bands I've mentioned are about as popular as any popstar I've ever seen. They're the pop-stars of the rock world, for lack of a better word. You aren't special or different for liking them. Completely shunning things you think everyone else loves doesn't make you cool or a rebel or whatever, it pretty much just makes you look dumb. =/

Agreed. Music is music, no matter if you like it or not and I think people should respect each other's tastes. I'm getting really tired of seeing people on metal videos on youtube bashing pop artists. Hey you know what, I don't listen to them either, but you don't see me going around and insulting them for no reason...and you rarely see pop fans bashing other genres. First of all, how boring would it be if everyone listened to the same genre? And let's think about this - would you honestly want your favorite bands/musicians who may not be well-known or well-accepted to become popular? I sure as heck wouldn't. They would just turn into some watered-down, crappy version of their former selves that you wouldn't want to listen to anymore.
