I think it's something like the character standing there with the moon shining on her eyes and pricking her ears, but I'm no expert XD

I'm okay with the odd word thrown in every now and then, if it fits the character and everything, but excessive use annoys me. :/
If someone uses it in my RP, I won't rant about it if they only use one or two of those words in each post, but if there's loads and I don't understand what they're trying to say, the post itself is useless; what's the point of posting in a roleplay if no one else knows what you're saying? We can't possibly reply to it if we don't know what you're saying!!!

Personally, I find it rather irksome.
I believe TOKI put it best when she said it was improper.

My thoughts?

Latin is already an abused and forgotten language. Why kick it in the teeth by using it incorrectly?

For the last time, no, "femora" is not a female wolf. It is the plural of femur, which is a neuter noun. Your femur is your thighbone. Do not tell me about your sexy, sexy two thighbones.

It's not good English. It's not even pretending to be good English. It's appealing to people who like the appearance of being smart, but don't actually think about what they are writing. And that, quite frankly, can go straight to tell. Give me well-crafted, thoughtful prose instead. I don't need five billion paragraphs of purple vomit.

A long time ago I instituted a policy that if anyone dared give me a post in this "wolfspeak", they would similarly get a post that was not in English. I would write them a lovely post in Latin. Simple Latin, mind you, because I'm not that good at composition, but Latin. If they aren't going to respect the English language, I am certainly not going to disrespect it alongside them.

It's time we stop giving this stupid trend praise, or even attention, unless that attention is a sound "NO, STOP DOING THAT, YOU IDIOT" and a slap on the head.

What on earth does that even say? xD

'The muscular female stands on slim legs, her soft fur white... black eyes shining with love and ears pricked on her delicate body. You see icy sunlit eyes sparkling with shine (no, it doesn't make sense) under blue eyelashes (I think). The female turns on slim legs... ears alert and eyes gleaming... dark white fur shines over her slim body.'

The trick to understanding wolfspeak is looking for certain syllables (anything with 'opt' in it can be used to mean 'eyes', anything with 'aud' means 'ears', anything with 'ped' means 'legs', any noun beginning with 'f' and ending in a vowel can mean 'female'), words that mean things related to the body part being described ('hark' means 'listen', so 'harks' can mean 'ears'), words for things that resemble the thing being described ('pillars' for 'legs', or synonyms for the word wanted whether those synonyms fit the intended meaning or not ('dye' or 'tint' in place of 'colour', 'ashen' in place of 'white', 'gelid' instead of 'icy). As you can see, this is a very slipshod way of writing that really doesn't get its point across, because the majority of it is words used incorrectly (sometimes badly - 'cilia' does mean 'eyelashes', but the more common meaning is the hairs on cells, like those that push detritus up your airways... making phlegm and snot) or even being completely made up ('suant' is not a word as far as I know).

Wolfspeak tends to be very repetitive, since it's more focused on excessive faux-poetic character description that adds nothing to the writing, as you can see in the translated version of the generator's example. Wolfspeak characters seem inordinately fond of gazing at landscapes, letting the wind ruffle their fur, posing in the moonlight, and other boring things. Horsespeak characters, by the same token, like to pose on hilltops, stamp their hooves, and let the wind ruffle their manes. It tends to be very picturesque but lacking any sort of substance or real character.

This seems to be making the English language a hell of a lot more complicated than it needs to be. ._.

I say this as a person who's attempted writing, failed horribly, re-worked my language skills and picked it back up again. And still has trouble with overly-dramatic language, at times.
This sort of flowery prose will get you {general you} no where- mostly because no one can understand it, and partly because if there is anything to understand, it has no real context. ^^; It does not make you a better writer- it makes you an inarticulate one, and people don't generally like to read that sort of thing. Especially when it's paragraphs upon paragraphs long.

I can, however, understand how people might think that it would; but in all honesty... It seems like a way out of doing any real practice. Writing's an art form just like any other, and it requires dedication. It's not as easy as it looks!

But basically,

Harpalyce wrote:Latin is already an abused and forgotten language. Why kick it in the teeth by using it incorrectly?

This. So much this.
I'm slowly but surely learning Latin, and those posts literally make my head hurt from trying to picture what it says, compared to what the writer intends. o_o And that's only the Latin bit; I've given up trying to understand the creative uses of English thrown about. It brings to mind ears atop articles of clothing {bodice...?}, standing dramatically {on a mannequin post {made of femurs}} in the moonlight, and no one can take that seriously.

Really. I dare you to try. XD

My opinion on Wolfspeak? I personally could not understand it. And I thought Catspeak (Leaf-bare, Twoleg, etc.) was bad. But Wolfspeak is much worse, in my opinion.

cat-speak at least doesn't use random words to decribe body parts; they stick to "paw" and "tail" for the most part. but the wolfspeak is very annoying. It breaks up the flow of your post, as most of us have to stop and try to figure out what the hay you're talking about. :/ I understand the alphess one, actually, it doesn't really bug me, as it is what it sounds like: a female version of "alpha"

So call it an alpha female...? That's what I use, since last I checked, 'alphess' wasn't actually a word. c:
