Precious metals as those always hold their value. Owning land for a dragon of my size would require a large portion of land, and even as a dragon, I know you cannot flee from the IRS when it comes to paying taxes. I tried eating the last debt collector and ended up in court. It is much more convenient stealing and taking metals and keeping a small stockpile to the side for taxes.
