I used to use burn and dodge a lot for shading/highlights.
I find them useful to. If you aren't supposed to use them, why are they there?? I use a separate layer, black and 50-60% opacity for shading now, though |D
Exactly, they're there for a reason xp I like to use them for shading on black or white, and sometimes other colors work well with them, but I don't use them ALL the time x3
I think burn and dodge is quite evil. x: It over-saturates colors and makes flat values. In digital programs they're there for use on actual photos, but in oekaki I have no clue; but I personally think they shouldn't be there. You shade with
colors. Burn and dodge adds or takes away contrast, and that is not what values do. They are not single-toned or varying shades of one color. There are very few people who can properly use it to shade, and there's way too many who
think they know how to use it. I had a stint with burn and dodge for trees and small objects; someone should have smacked my hand the second I clicked that button.
