Do you guys have any suggestions for it? She's a mongoose c:

Sorta depends on how realistic you're going, but my biggest critique is that all mongoose have flat profiles. Change the forehead-to-nose slope to a smooth line/curve and you'll instantly look more mongoose. Now before you continue, don't take the following wall-of-text too seriously. Your mask is cute and very well constructed, especially for a first one. As a serious maker, the following is what I would do if I were making your mask. Keep in mind that toony styles take what they like/remember about a species and exaggerate it. You don't have to follow any of this to a "T".

Image References
Barabas Yellow Mongoose Profile, Banded Mongoose Profile, Flat Yellow Mongoose Portrait, Pet Mongoose Portrait, African Dwarf Mongoose Portrait, Another Pet Mongoose Portrait

From the side (aka profile view):
Your muzzle looks really long for a barabas, even pretty long for a banded mongoose (which has the longest snout, proportionally). The muzzle should also change smoothly into the cheeks, unlike a dog. Their heads are pretty triangular from the top and side.

From the front (aka portrait view):
The muzzle should taper thinner, it's looking a little dog-like. The nose is also a little on the wide side for a mongoose. The ears are too small overall, and they need to face more forward. The innermost point of the ears line up with the outer corners of the eyes, the tallest point of the ears line up with the widest point of the cheeks, and the bottom of the ears connect on the side of the head just under the outer corner of the eyes's height. The head should also be fairly square, so either wider are the top ( bigger head, less work overall) or narrower at the cheeks (smaller head, but also need to change the muzzle a lot to match proportions)

If you need a redline or something, I can do it later when I get home. Or if you want to match a specific species of mongoose, I can do that too. :3

Dude, thank you so much!! This critique is so helpful ahh :DD I'm trying to make this as good as I can; I've seen a lot of first heads get completely messed up... I'll certainly take your advice into consideration when I make tweaks to the base. c: and a redline would be really helpful if you wouldn't mind doing it ^^

I'm making an Articuno fursuit for an upcoming Comic Con where I live.

Does anybody have any tips for the tail?

Firstly, fun fact of the day. Articuno is based on the paradise flycatcher (Indian or Asian White, either/or.)

Now are you making gijinka (Humanoid-shaped, adapted design) or a mascot suit (true to shape)? A gijinka, I would recommend translating the tail into hair or a cape, because long tails are a nuisance. If you're going for a mascot suit or really want a tail, It depends how realistic you're going. If you're using feather-like fur, and real feathers on the wings/etc., you'd want to use really long feathers overlapped to build up a tail on a sturdy base. I'd personally build that onto a non-pil, smooth fleece covered foam core (board shaped) so you could poke the feathers in, glue them in from the inside and sew it up. For a cartoonier look, Use foamy sheets glued together to make long strips, cover them with the same material you use for the wings. (A matte mink fabric, or short fur would work).

My biggest recommendation is DON'T MAKE A REALLY LONG TAIL. Can't emphasize this enough. Touching the ground is fine, but if it drags or is long enough to, it will get in the way and it will get destroyed in a con setting. Make two tails if you want a "perfect" one, but anything that is longer than a few feet will get mangled. Saying this from experience, here.

And if I'm not making sense, tell me. I'm rushing because I have to leave for work. ;3

Mmkay, I added a few tweaks to the foam base- Made the ears bigger, the nose bridge thing bigger, the muzzle slightly shorter and thinner, and a few other things... What do you all think?

I don't know if this goes on here or the Furry thread but,

I'm going to Fur Fright this october! I am so excited to go!

Any tips for transporting a fursuit on a car would be helpful. c:

Looking good, but i think you can do one better. I finally got around to those redlines (sorry for the wait) and you can see how I would change things. I tried to add much more than cut the foam;

Image
And without the photos, so you can see the gridlines that emphasize mass/shape;
Image

That's about what I'd do if I was making your mask.
Nose;
The bridge on the nose got taller, and smoothed out to the tip of the nose. I thinned the bridge out near the eyes, so that you'd have a clear expression and thinned it all the way out to the nose itself. The tip of the nose got smaller all round to keep the square ratio a mongoose has. The tip of the lips/cheeks got thinner and near the center of the muzzle (the "football" on the lip).

Cheeks;
The cheeks got shaped into a smile to match the mouth. Added a lot of cheek just under the eye, and added more to the lower cheek. You could even make the cheeks a lot wider, to look cuter/less thin from the front view. It'd be more accurate too, but it would also be hotter inside.

Top of Head Area;
I added a lot of foam to the sides of the top of the head. Human heads are really long and egg-like, the animal's head isn't. This better disguises the head. It also leads into the ears better. You could make the whole face wider to be more accurate and more cute, but it also means you'd have to rip the ears off to bulk it up.

The Eyes;
Moved them more forward and into the bridge of the nose. I bulked up the eyebrows so they would show after furring

The Ears;
Made them bigger, connected them higher and pinned them back some. They're like human ears but higher up and huge.

And you totally don't have to do anything I've just said. It's just how I would have made it if I were altering your base. I just figured the visual might make some sense of what I said last time.

Oh. And I gave up on cleaning my workspace. I carted my dummy near the only clean space (my bed) and took a photo there. Excuse my mess, please. :]c Also, it doesn't have actual toes, yet. They'll make the feet longer and more bunny-like.
