This is an entry for the 20th katkin in the katkin adopts by meveh. Please don't post until I say it's okay to post!
Tigris is very adventurous. But maybe too adventurous. When he was a little kitkat, he wandered off into the woods to find what was in it. Tigris’ mother got worried when he didn’t return for supper, and she tacked posters all over the neighborhood that read ‘MISSING KITKAT: TIGRIS – IF YOU FIND HIM PLEASE RETURN HIM AT 1335 MEOWLER STREET IMMEDIATELY – REWARD: 10 PK’ with a small picture of Tigris at the center. Then, a villager found him and returned him. Tigris was found on a natural trail where the villager went to take a walk. The katkin refused the reward, though, as she was just glad to be of help. Tigris was alive. Not in good condition, but alive. When he was a little older, he wandered off into the woods again, but he was cautious next time, because he did not want to get lost again. He trudged through the woods, carrying a stick with him to make a mark on the ground every now and then, so he could track his way back home. But, just when Tigris wandered into a nearby clover patch, a nasty beast that resembled a bull sprang at him from a thick clump of tall grass. Tigris’ heart skipped a beat. He dropped the stick he was holding. ‘HELP’ he caterwauled, hoping that some katkin could hear him. The beast tackled him with a force so strong and fierce, it knocked him a good three feet away from the spot where he was standing. Tigris staggered backwards, then collapsed to the ground out of shock and dizziness. Only his shock kept him conscious. The beast then planted it’s horrible, gremlin-like, slimy hooves on Tigris’ belly. It aimed its sharp, curved horns at Tigris’ chest. Tigris braced himself for the final blow. But, just before the beast could pierce its horns into Tigris, a ranger accelerated towards the beast and slapped it with a long whip. The beast roared in pain, and charged full-speed at the katkin ranger. The ranger placed an arrow into his bow, pulled back, and released. The arrow pierced into the beast, and with a thud, the beast fell dead. The ranger then turned at Tigris and hissed, “What are you doing here?! The woods is VERY dangerous, it’s not for young kits like you to be playing around in!” “But, I just wanted to-“ Tigris stuttered. “You need to get out of here! A kit your age can’t take risks like that! If another beast attacks you, and no other katkins are around, what would you do?” Tigris’ shock raised up a level. He ignored the question. “I’m sorry…” Tigris said with a pang of guilt in his stomach. “As long as you wander only with a ranger protecting you, then I will accept your apology, but for now, please, do not go into the woods unless you are a ranger…” Tigris thought about that. He never thought about it before, but Tigris was really curious about the world. If he became a ranger, he could venture into the woods, and maybe kill a couple beasts that threaten katkin life. Tigris could almost taste his dream future. “Well..” Tigris started. “You can tell me anything, kid.” “Well,” Tigris repeated. “I want to be a ranger when I grow up.” The ranger smiled. “It’s good to hear you want to give your services in dedication to the katkin world.” The ranger turned at a mark on the earthly ground a couple feet away. “Say, what are those marks?” “I made them, I didn’t want to get lost.” Tigris answered quietly. The ranger fixed his green gaze on Tigris. “Good to know you are at least careful about it,” the katkin ranger replied. Then Tigris returned home. His mother hugged him tight. The last words the ranger said to him before a while was, “Follow your dreams, kid, but stay away from the woods for a bit.” Tigris grew up. While he was growing up, he met a nice, friendly vegetable gardener named Juliet. Tigris befriended her quickly. The black and white katkin couldn’t say no. Tigris became the ‘adventurer’ of her group of friends. He always nosed around other katkins’ business. Eventually, he joined the corps to become a ranger. Juliet was proud of Tigris for his new career. Tigris was shy, but really helpful. He drove off a beast that threatened the village of Greenville, which turned out to be Juliet’s hometown. Tigris was popular among katkin society because of that. A couple days later, he was at a katkin senior center, and Juliet was chatting away at some of the elderly katkins that lived there. Then Tigris found a familiar face. He recognized the golden-brown fur, and the deep-green eyes. It was the ranger that rescued him before. “Hey, it’s you!” Tigris could barely believe his eyes. The retired ranger recognized him as well, and greeted him. “Hey, kid! I’ve seen ya on the Pawnews, protecting Greenville. I’m really proud of ya,” There was a flicker of amusement in the former-ranger’s bright green eyes. Tigris was happy at his own friend reunion.
