I had and still have sometimes this problem and it's really awful, especially if the insomnia takes a long time...
In general I'm a night owl and it's ok for me going to sleep really late and then waking up late too

I usually sleep rather good but sometimes I have these "insomnia periods" anf they're very exhausting... I tried to overcome them many times and I noticed that in my case several reasons create this state

Drinking too much coffee till the day, the lack of relaxation and eating (especially too much) right before sleeping, they're the main reasons of my problem

Also the uncomfortable bed can be really a problem sometimes (in my case this was too), I'm not a fan of brand things like in
this list but a good place for sleeping protects from insomnia too
I also hate when someone is disrespectful for my time for sleeping
