You write to a word goal, and if reach your word goal, you win awesomeness :3
And a free paperback copy of your novel you wrote :D

Me, for example, I'm writing a novel about a girl who can bring dreams to reality. It's going to be around 70,000 words, though the usual goal for NaNo is 50,000 :) I'm just writing it up and I hope to be able to finish up on time :D

What Dragon said. It really depends on what you think you can do. If you don't write much then a lower word goal is probably something you'd be more likely to reach. Some of us can reach 3,000 with no problem if we actually want to.
But as she also said, you can aim for 25,000 words if you want. That's what we have to be at tomorrow (well the ones of us aiming for 50k anyway).

Well it is called National NOVEL Writing Month for a reason. Most people write one big story (that I am calling a Novella).

Technically, a fiction story at 40-50k is a novella, so Strawberry-Ringo ist correct, if you wish to go by Publisher lingo XD
70-100k is typically the range of the average novel now a days :3

lol I don't pay attention to what publishers consider what. A novella is what my old english teacher called it and it stuck ever since. Mine is going to be 50k anyway so it fits into a publisher's lingo! XD

I'm going to keep writing though and finish my book. However, I am really not looking forward to editing. There's some really messy parts...

I think the minimum for a novel is 50,000 words. Less then that is a novella. But a novella also involves fewer characters, sub plots, and themes and less character development then a full novel. But as far as I know there's no 'official' definition of what's a novella and what's a novel.

I was wondering, anyone use any great vocabulary words in their writing? I love vocab words. I think the best I've used so far 'execrable', 'popinjay' (when do you ever get to use a word like popinjay!?) and the crown jewl, 'Schadenfreude'! I can't tell you how estactic I was when I got to use that one. Best. Word. EVER!

Haha, I'm at 28888. I like that number, so many eights!

I don't usually use fancy words. It isn't that I don't know them, I just don't want my reader to wonder what every other word means considering it's for my age group and not many people I know read a lot, and thus don't know big vocabulary.
