Braces Rant Thread

i have braces right now and.... they cause lots of problems, first of all these bands that are supposed to help my jaw which isnt even bad to begin with just keep me from eating normally and i dont get as much food as anyone else because i have to keep them in 24 7 and when i go to get them tightened it hurts alot when they push down on it so much that the pain is terrible the next day the tooth was fine X(

I got braces in 8th grade and had them until I was a sophomore in high school. It wasn't a pleasant experience at all, but I'm really glad that I had the opportunity to have my teeth straightened!

Here's a bit of a backstory. When I was 7 or 8, I was playing limbo with my friends and ending up smacking my face against the wall, causing my front tooth to be nearly knocked out. It was very loose but didn't fall out, so my mom took me to the ER and the doctor put some odd goop over it to hold it in place while it healed. Although the tooth re-anchored itself, I went to the children's hospital a few days later (the goop was causing me some nausea after a bit) and they said that it could have been fixed better. They put a wire brace over a few of my front teeth while the tooth healed up, and I was eternally grateful that I didn't lose my tooth completely, but my front teeth had a gap and the one tooth was lower than the other. I got bullied for it in elementary school, but it really didn't bother me because my front teeth eventually moved together as my bigger adult teeth came in.

When I got braces, my teeth had already done a lot of moving on their own, so the work done on my front tooth wasn't as extensive as I thought that it would be. My main problem was with my canine teeth sticking forward, as well as an overbite. The pain was pretty bad, partially because I'm a wimp and partially because my teeth are very sensitive. I had to use rubber bands, but I was lucky enough to get the clear kind instead of the regular brown ones. When I got my braces off, I got the clear plastic retainers but I was never very good at wearing them, so my orthodontist had to put a permanent wire on my bottom teeth and one on my two front teeth. I honestly don't mind, though, because I don't have to wear my retainer often and they aren't noticeable because they're behind my teeth. Braces weren't fun at all, but I appreciate what they've done for me. It's amazing how differently people will treat you with a straight smile.

I got my braces off a few years ago, but some of the scars that it caused inside of my mouth I can still feel them with my tongue. They actually bother me quite a bit since I doubt that they will ever completely fade.

Same, I am sure I still have a long scar along the side of my mouth, from my old braces, it doesn't hurt or bother me though, I just know it's there

i actually recently got braces, and the second day after i got them (which has been the worst day so far) we had a going away party for a teacher with loads of chips and sodas and other stuff. guess who couldn't have anything besides jell-o that i brought for myself. :-/

Awe poor you, when I first git my braces I got one day off school because they hurt so bad, and instead of a normal lunch I decided to bring a bowl of wheet a bix and a flask of hot milk (I don't like cold milk) and people in que for lunch behind me were teasing me saying my friends got braces and she doesn't eat wheat a bix. I was like yes but I bet she didn't just get hers on two days ago and probably likes soup ( I don't like soup, I'm a fussy eater), I ddnt say it out loud because I'm very, very, shy. I just ducked my head and continued eating my cereal.

I was sitting at my house the other day, so I decided to look at my hurting tooth. It was fine, but their are so many scars, it's not even funny.
My friend got her braces off yesterday, and I'm so happy for her, because she's had them on for over 3 years.
