Recurve bow help?

Postby Osskiar » Sat Dec 27, 2014 12:25 am

So, I got a recurve bow and a few arrows for Christmas this year. I've shot a bow before on holiday with my parents a few years ago so I figured why not. Problem is, it doesn't look quite right Image I'm not sure if I've put the limbs on backwards or what I've done wrong in general so any advice would be a great help (ignore my feet and PJ pants XD)

Okay, I'm an avid archer and I use a recurve bow, so maybe I can help.

The string is on the right side, it's not backwards. You just need to string it. I had some considerable trouble stringing my bow when I first got it, because I didn't know how. My dad showed me how so I'll try and describe it to you.

1. String one end of the bow (as you have already) and turn the bow so the stringed limb is on the bottom and the free limb is on top. (Not on the floor; you should be holding the bow upright.)
2. Put the outside of your left foot against the curve of the bottom limb. Then put your right leg through the space in-between the string (which you should be holding upright) and the rest of the bow.
3. Now, using your left foot to keep the bow in place, use your right leg for leverage so you can bend the upper limb of the bow toward the string.
4. Attach and slowly let it up.

Hope that helped! Happy Shooting!

(sorry, I want to make sure I'm actaually doing this right before I start tugging at it)

No, no. You want to get in a position where you can use your leg for leverage in bending the bow.

Put your left foot in the curve of the strung limb, and bend the unstrung limb over your right leg so you can string it.

You've got to turn the bow the other way. Put your left foot inside the curve, but do it the other way, and then follow then previous steps.

Hopefully this vid will help. Not exactly how I do it, but pretty close. It works, at any rate, especially for a stronger bow.

Hope that helped!
