Go to your "My account" page, and go to "Profile". Then , click "Change avatar". If you wish to have an avatar from the CS gallery, you chose "Pick from our avatar gallery" then choose your desired avatar.

If you want a picture of some sort of the internet, first, make sure you know you can use it. If so, then proceed. If you are in Google, click "View image" then get the URL(the link) for the picture. If not, right-click the image and you should have an option to view the image. Paste the link into the "Link off-site box and in the Avatar dimensions boxes, type 100 x 100 (these usually have the best results) and hit Submit.

I'm sorry, this is the best I can really do to explain this. And one more thing- you might want to have a mod move this to the help and suggestions forum.
