Hi, Cass123me! I totally agree. Homeschooling is WAAAY better than public school, especially because you can focus and there are no distractions. And no cliques and bullies to fool around with you! That's why I love homeschooling. You can work on your own pace and not worry about what anyone else has to say about you or your schoolwork.
I must admit, homeschooling has taught me to communicate with not only people of my age, but with adults and older people. It offers you a LOT more life skills and social skills than you would ever learn in public school. If I was in a public school, I definitely wouldn't be who I am now and I wouldn't know what I know now, and I also wouldn't have been able to work on my skills and talents as I am able to do with homeschooling. I used to hate it, I felt so boxed in and alone and it was unfair to me. But now, I can't live without it.
So welcome to the homeschool world! You'll love it more, every day!

As for what you said, The Fragile, I am honestly confused with this whole finishing school thing and which way I should go. Is the GED you're talking about the GED you do on the computer? My friend did it, and she is totally happy about it. Although, the last time we considered GED, we heard that the universities in my country do not accept a GED graduation/matric. But then another friend said the universities do accept it... I am honestly so confused right now with what to do. I feel like just doing unschooling. xD

Yes, it was. Although I did mine in person and not online, because at the time I got mine and the state I was in, the online program wasn't available yet. And it's the same GED whether you do it online or in person, although the online program is even more costly. Mine cost me about $120, plus materials. The online program where I am costs about $175.

Has your friend tried to get into any schools or get a job since getting her GED?

Many universities everywhere do not accept GEDs. Where I do, mostly just community and technical schools do. So, for me to get into the school I really want, I'm going to have to do several semesters at a community school and then transfer. Some employers frown upon them as well so it makes it harder to get a job. GEDs are generally associated with high school drop outs, so there is a taboo of sorts attached to them. And a couple of people I have tried to explain why I have my GED to have flat out thought I was lying because most people are pretty ignorant of how homeschooling works, and didn't understand why I couldn't have a diploma.

I, personally, really regret going the GED route. I wish I had just finished my final year in public school and gotten a diploma. I don't know if it's true of the online programs or not, but because of all of the mandatory classes I had to take and the waiting for the next testing period, it wound up taking me months to even get my GED.

Hello, i'm not sure if this thread would still be active but i need some help. I'm trying to convince my parents to let me be home schooled because public school really isn't for me (stress and anxiety). Their main concern is socialization. Do you have any suggestions of things i could do for that?

Hello!
There are a lot of homeschool groups. You should go online and search for nearest homeschool groups. I'd also tell them about volunteering (I know you must have volunteered since a lot of schools require it, but the volunteer opportunities are GREAT during the school year!)
During my years as a homeschooler, I've volunteered at a animal shelter, a wildlife animal center, a library, and soon a historic park. My sisters have actually gotten to shadow vets!

Thank you! I'll look into homeschool groups near me but I'm not sure about the volunteering. My age kind of limits what I'm able to do but I'll definitly look into that as well

But wow! You've done a lot. Was it fun?

It honestly depends on how old you are, after a while my social skills stuck, they don't really budge. But I do become anti-social if I stay inside for days at a time. It can become unhealthy if you don't push yourself to go outside and make yourself open to your neighbors and the kids and animals outside. To be honest I'd suggest trying a year of home-schooling. If it doesn't work for you, you can always try something else. The paperwork isn't too difficult. It takes guts to just leave something like Public School, I'm proud of you for thinking about it.

Thanks! I think I'm at an age where I'm expected to be more social so I'm trying. It's hard though. There's no people my age (or relatively close) in my neighborhood but I have a lot of family over often. I'm looking into clubs or groups I can meet with. I used to be in an agility class with my dog so I was thinking about joining that again. I'm not sure though

Most volunteer things only require you to be 13 or older. SOME let 12 year olds. ;)

Very fun! My favorite so far has been the wildlife center, but I'm thinking the historic park will probably end up being my favorite since we get to dress up like we're from the past!

I really hope your parents let you homeschool. ❤

I actually found an animal shelter nearby that accepts volunteers my age but my parents would have to be there with me. I don't know how that would go with their work schedules.

but thanks for your help! I really appreciate it

I saw this thread and was curious :D

I'm someone from public school, and I don't know anyone (irl) that homeschools, so it's interesting to see what all of you say! :3

I do agree that public school may be a bit stressful, with some mean people and stuff. I'm not really bothered by bullies unless they threaten me or something, which had never happened to me. There's a lot of competitiveness in the class, and for like every single test at least one person is going around asking about what others got.
