I'm also home-schooled. Always have been.
    It does make it harder to meet anyone or make friends, though, but I'd be terrible in an actual school. ;w;

Hi everyone.
First of all I haven't read all of this thread yet so I apologise if I don't know who you all are.

I have been home educated for almost my whole life, minus six months when I was seven. I wanted to try school, my parents let me. I wanted to leave again. My parents were thrilled. End of.

I'm a teenager now and in my county (I'm British btw) there is a college which started running GCSE courses aimed at home ed teenagers. It was funded by the government. So I took English and Maths GCSEs there and I'm now in my second year of an art course there too. I've also had private lessons in Geography and Biology with the result that I got much better GCSE grades than in the English and maths classes at college. I currently have four GCSE passes yet if I were in school I wouldn't have sat any yet.

Where I live there is a large network of home educators which is a real advantage. Events are frequently organised for us, both one-offs and regular classes so it is extremely easy to find friends in a similar situation to you. Not all my friends are home educated however.

I'll edit soon, I need to mess around with our stove for a minute.
New username to remind me of the wind through the trees and the way I want to be.

Hiiii, guys. c: I'm homeschooled, too. duh, otherwise I wouldn't have posted here. It's nice to meet y'aaaaaaall!
I've been homeschooled all my life, but I only started liking it about a year and a half ago. xD And I'm nearly done with school. So that's a crapload of time to not like homeschooling because all my friends were in the normal school. Although, I made a few nice friends that are homeschooled, and now I'm only friends with them because HOMESCHOOLERS ARE JUST AWESOME LIKE THAT. ._.
I just have a little but of a problem though, and that is that I don't know what curriculum to do for my matric... Meaning... The last grade of my school (I stay in South Africa so our terms are somewhat different).
So I hope I can get that sorted sometime.......................
Anywho, I'll chat to ya' later!

I was homeschooled.

In some ways it was a good thing but in some it severely set me back. I think it contributed a lot to be being socially awkward, plus I wasn't able to get a diploma since I didn't graduate in a public school, I had to get a GED, which sets me back getting a job and getting into college. In hindsight, I wish I had done my final year in public school so I could have graduated. Definitely something for you guys who haven't finished school yet to think about...

There might be homeschool groups around! I met most of my homeschooled friends through a homeschool group. :3

I love homeschooling!! It's so fun. :3

The Fragile, you say you did GED and you regret it... I also plan on doing it, although I can do a normal graduation (or matric in my country), but I am so confused actually as to what curriculum I should be doing. Cambridge is another option, but if I start with it now, I'll most probably only finish school when I'm 20... AND I DON'T WANT THAT.

Sunflower - If you can at all get a normal graduation with a diploma, do it. Not only was getting my GED time consuming and costly, it has also made it harder to get into some better colleges and, to an extent, jobs. Although most employers have accepted them.

I have no idea about curriculum. Find out what your local schools are using. You can always just do your final year of school in public school, at least that would have worked where I live.

I just started homeschooling! I love it. It's nice because I can finish on my own time and take as long as I need to finish my tests and you're not rushed so it's great! Plus you get to wear your PJs :D ! I finish a lot earlier than my sisters who go to school. When I have a lot to do I usually finish around 2pm but If I don't have a lot I finish around 11am-12pm! I get distracted easily so I can focus more when I'm at home. It is more difficult to make friends , but I make some online and I do have kids in my neighborhood so it isn't impossible. Unlike public school , I don't have to worry about talking to people or forgetting my work since it's all online! I'm also not a very social person so I don't mind being alone! Although the reason why I wanted to start homeschooling isn't great. It took one year and six months of bullying for my mom to pull me out ( I had to wait a school year because there werent any spots open). The staff at my old school sucked. My anxiety has improved since switching schools and I don't regret going online! Public School is so mentally and physically exhausting.
