I personally prefer The Hunger Games, and in my eyes, it all lies in the main character. In Hunger Games, we have Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire. The girl who would do anything to protect her sister and her mother. Who hunted for them and who scavenged for food when they truly needed it. She started a revolution, she was the Mockingjay. She brought hope to those who needed it. Katniss is a strong role model for girls to look up to, because ignoring the situations that the girls who look up to her would probably never be placed in, she was strong for herself, and for her family, and was extremely selfless..
.........And then we have Bella. What really is significant of Bella? She constantly put herself in danger..for a vampire? I suppose in the first book, yes, she was going to allow that vampire to kill her to keep her mother safe, but at the same time, look at the rest of the series, and what truly stands out? Her loosing her mind over Edward leaving? Her constantly thinking Edward this, Edward that. Making her life revolve around a guy? And she only becomes super confident once she undergoes a drastic change? There's nothing there that, in my opinion, is of any value and doesn't present a very..sufficient role model for girls.
And for Katniss, its not even just girls. Yes, shes an excellent fictional role model for girls, but for guys too. Everything she does that isn't terribly romantic (Dear god, Mockingjay, why.) is a lesson that can be taken for both girls and guys. There's also, for me, the fact Hunger Games has an excellent story and Twilight only gets a story within the very last book.
And perhaps my favorite part is as you're watching the film, for just a moment, you smile or laugh at something going on in the games and for me its the most terrifying realization because you realize for just a second, a measly second, making this corrupt fight to the death entertaining worked on you.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost,
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows will spring;
Renewed shall be the blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king
