I need a computer/game expert!

Okay. So I just bought a game off eBay I had a long time ago. It's called Warlords Battlecry. I figured it would work on my new laptop (windows 8) because some other older games I have work on it. It turns out the game works amazingly...except when I go to play on the map, all the armies, animals, trees, buildings, ect are invisible. They are there because I can click on my person but I can't give any commands. I've tried changing the game resolution, reinstalling, I even have the DirectX7 installed that it said was required. I can't find any help anywhere. I've found patches for games 2 3 and 4 but not the original which is what I have.

Can anyone help me?

Something might be wrong with your game. Check if there is any scratches on it, or if it is pirated.
