I don't make up my characters. They are who they are, that's it. I don't know what people mean when they make up characters. I have made up designs, but they are not characters for me because they do not have a name, a gender, and a personality. I mean, you can't make up people.. For me, my characters are just what they are, I guess.. Dillon is a blonde dalmatian, Mike is... something with a few stripes, Akello is a something-or-other resembling the lovechild of a bat and a civet, Shae is a sea lion type thing, Creameh is an orange-coloured husky... That's just who they are. I don't make them up, I find them. That's why I have so much trouble finding a fursona. I have problems with identifying myself (oh plz as if that wasn't obvious XDDD) so it's hard to find a sona. I feel like I keep getting closer, though, so that's good.
See, that is what I am talking about. To me, characters were something I had. They came to me, not me creating them. However, since I have suddenly done a 180 degree shift in my art life, from pure writing to pure drawing this has changed. Now these are designs that I sit down and work on, though they come to me in a different way. Sometimes I have to work very hard on color scheme, markings and other small details to help balance the image out as a whole. Then the personality begins to reveal itself to me as I work. I let the art grow on me, and slowly develop into its own unique personality and backstory. While before, I did the opposite. The personality of the character was something I just knew, and it took me some work and alot of doodles to get it right when I went to the drawing part.
My fursona is the only one that worked completely in sych. I did not think of colors, species, personality, backstory. It all just came to me at once, though getting it all down right wasn't easy. Which is why the design process was a bit longer, for I couldn't get it just right. And once T.G. was done I had to go out and research an animal(s) that would fit her body type, coloration and personality.
Alas, I ramble and distracting myself from my own art XD
Edit:: T.G. {fox-civet, female, fursona}
Gyn {tailmouth, female}
Unnamed {spirit asiatic golden cat, female}
Cerca & Solan {female & male wolf couple}
These are my 'art' characters/designs. My written characters are really just that... and probably will stay relatively private, except maybe my dragon species XD
