So, everyone knows the Bible says the world was made in a week, but all the fossil stuff says the world has been here thousands of years, and scientists reckon there was a lot more before those fossils. Well, so do I. A lot longer than 7 days. But I think it's probably symbolic, like most of the things in Revelations. One "day" was probably actually a few million years, and so there may well have geen a gigantic bang which God had intended to happen. That is the main reason most of my friends don't beleive in the Bible or God, so I just thought I'd point it out here, too.

*random*

That's actually a good point. I'm atheist myself, but it always struck me as weird that god supposedly made the world in a week... I mean, even for a god it would be logically very nearly impossible to do that.
Anyway, my mind works in strange ways xD.

That's what my dad said, and he's catholic and beleives all tat stuff.
The way he explained it one day was the big bang. The next could be the dinosaurs or something. And days meant eras, not 24 hour periods.
It still doesn't sound right to me. Doesn't leave a lot of room for evolution or whatever. There's more to support that theory than the 7 days thing.

That's because a lot of Christians don't believe evolution. It doesn't leave room for it because from that interpretation God created everything, no evolution involved. Also, someone said earlier how they didn't think even a god could create the world in 7 days. How would you know the power of a god? Whether you believe or not. By the way, I'm one of those who doesn't believe in evolution.

My opinion on the beginning of our universe is that it was born from a larger universe through a black hole - the elements and energy from the parent universe were pumped in through the black hole to supply ours with all it needed to grow, and once ours got big enough, it began to reproduce and have lots of little black holes of its own. Some physicists are investigating the hypothesis that universes themselves undergo natural selection, since our universe's physical laws happen to be set up very well for producing black holes once it reaches a size that it can support 'offspring'. Universes with different physical laws might not be able to reproduce as quickly, so they get outcompeted, thus our universe's physical laws give our universe and its relatives a higher 'fitness' and become more widespread. ^^ So far physicists haven't been able to disprove the hypothesis, and the data supports it. They're working on telescopes that could show far enough back in time to see the earliest days of the universe so they can actually answer some of these questions (or at least make better guesses). ;)

I try not to think about the beginning of the universe. Makes me dizzy @.@

Thinking about the beginning of the universe is okay for me. What I hate thinking about is the END of the universe. Do any of you believe it will end in 2012? Why or why not?

you can call me Blue~

"No! I am not Prince Hamlet, nor was meant to be;
Am an attendant lord, one that will do
To swell a progress, start a scene or two,
Advise the prince; no doubt, an easy tool,
Deferential, glad to be of use,
Politic, cautious, and meticulous;
Full of high sentence, but a bit obtuse;
At times, indeed, almost ridiculous—
Almost, at times, the Fool."

No spamming dear. ;)

I support evolution, but I'm not entirely sure where I stand on the beginning of the universe. I'm not very sure about creating the world in seven days, but the universe is so big...anything could have happened...

I don't think so. I mean, people thought it would end in 2000, right? And some people thought it would end in, what, 2004? That never happened.
And that calender, the Mayan Calender, it has to end SOMEWHERE! It can't go on forever. It doesn't necessarily mean that the world's going to ends.
