Charley_bay wrote:I don't really know how the term Jesus Freak came into existence, but to me it's rather endearing in a way. XD I don't call myself a Jesus Freak on a daily basis, or to anyone in public ever, but a Christian band called DCtalk has a song they wrote a while back that's called "Jesus Freak". It's awesome lol. But yeah, I'm not sure about posting JESUS FREAK all over your profile. That seems a bit.... I don't know.

I agree, sometimes I see people with signatures all Jesus Freaked. I don't care if someone calls themselves that in a positive way, and maybe makes a little note somewhere on their profile, but redoing their siggy and post all over the internet calling themselves freaks is... strange, in a way.

Waverleigh was pretty close on the source of the 'Jesus freak' thing. In the '60s and '70s, Christian hippies preaching on the streets would be referred to derogatorily as 'Jesus freaks', and so they started identifying themselves as that to show how proud they are of their religion (which I really can't understand - pride is one of the top deadly sins, so wouldn't being proud to be a Christian automatically mean you're a very bad one?) and that they're so happy to be serving their religion that they don't care if people insult them, and also so people couldn't use it as an insult against them anymore. The younger generation is now picking it up as if it was just another label, the same way others might call themselves Goths or Emo, with no idea that 'Jesus freak' actually refers to hippie Protestants from the '70s.

God bless the hippies  That's actually really cool, I never knew that. **wonders if any of the Merry Pranksters were actually Jesus freaks** That would be an interesting combination o.O

From Chianya to mods: I am transferring my pets to AiraSkylar (http://www.chickensmoothie.com/Forum/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=6259) since the pets will really help Aira (formerly Jhey) to create a CS helper organization. If you want to double check this with me, find me on Aywas at Chianya (#12264). As of March 21st, 2012, this account is permanently inactive - I just do not know how to delete it.

Hm...I'm a little late in this discussion, but I haven't thought much about the term/lable "Jesus Freak"...You've talked about it being used in vain, but in a way, you could say that saying "Oh my God" is using God (if you are reffering to the Christan God) could be considered in vain. :P

I agree with you except for this :

Actually, it's part of respecting and worshipping the God who we believed created us. It would be bad if we were ashamed of Him. ;) Pride that is bad is when it's being too proud of yourself. Like, if I were to say, "I'm so much prettier than everyone else." xD

Just like yankee doodle dandy. It was sung by British soldiers to make fun of Americans, so the Americans decided to make it a parade song.
I guess it's okay though. It's fine if you're proud to be christian, it only means not to be incredibly full of yourself and arrogant. There's no shame in liking your religion.
But i'm no christian, so don't listen to me.

I live in Vermont, a state where like 70% of the people are non-religious. Like, atheist, agnostic, that kinda stuff.
