It always seemed a bit odd. To call yourself a "freak" of anything isn't exactly... A good term? I can't find the right words. ^^; But it's not something that I would expect people to admire.

I agree, "freak" isn't exactly a positive thing. I mean I call myself a freak among friends, but that's joking around - these people are serious. And I apologize for *another* random movie reference here, but technically Carrie's psycho mother in the Stephen King book/movie could be considered a "Jesus Freak" as well and, well...look what happened there XD

I think the term is because some people get made fun of for being a Christian. So, they were like, "Sure, I'm a freak and a loser. I don't care if you think I'm a freak." ...

Again, a lot have people have used the term "Jesus freak", so it's popular to use by now. Some people may not even understand it, but use it anyways.

Saying you're a Jesus Freak doesn't mean your using his name in vain. If your not talking about him or talking to him, then it's using his name in vain, K? There is a difference.

Yeah. I'm sorry deathangel, but there is more to us than just some geeks prancing around trying to impress people. No. We don't need to impress anyone, except for one person basically. It kinda hurt when you said that we just like to say we're "Jesus Freaks" to impress people. So from now on I would say it's safe to suggest that all of us posting here shouldn't make crude assumptions about each others religions.

I personally think it's a bit strange to call yourself a Jesus Freak... I don't think calling yourself a freak in any sense is very good for self esteem. Not to offend people. just stating my opinion.

I don't think it's using his name in vain by any means, but I do think the term can be off putting to non-Christians. Not because there's anything wrong with being a "Jesus Freak", it's just an odd term imho - it sounds a little overzealous. I think a "WWJD" serves the purpose better, because it's stating your faith in a kind and very intelligent way. Also, to those who *have* had bad interactions with certain Christians about their differing religious beliefs like myself, seeing someone post "I'm a Jesus Freak" all over their profile might make them a little wary of entering an actual religious discussion with the person

I don't really know how the term Jesus Freak came into existence, but to me it's rather endearing in a way. XD I don't call myself a Jesus Freak on a daily basis, or to anyone in public ever, but a Christian band called DCtalk has a song they wrote a while back that's called "Jesus Freak". It's awesome lol. But yeah, I'm not sure about posting JESUS FREAK all over your profile. That seems a bit.... I don't know.
