The line
- The line to get into Gilley’s was basically like this. It started at the front door of the South Side Ballroom at Gilley’s, rounded two blocks, and ended at the other side of the same building. I got in line at around 3:30, and we didn’t really get in until like 7. I stood the whole time expect for maybe two minutes where i sat down on the concrete lol. They came by and handed out orange wristbands so they knew who made it in, and I kept repeating over and over to my mom and sister, “we’re in! we’re in! we’re in!”
The Event
- It lasted until around 8:30 I think, again standing the whole time. Not much moving space with 2,000+ people in the same room as you haha. I was about a hundred feet from the stage. This was the first thing I’ve ever been to to see a celebrity in person.
- They let us listen to Ed Sheeran’s new song for the soundtrack and also showed us a 10 minute video clip of some seen footage and some unseen footage from the movie (which was perfect in my opinion, FYI).
- Shailene, Nat, Ansel, and John came out on stage and Shailene did a little country-looking dance and she sang part of These Boots Were Made for Walkin’. Shai also wore a cowboy hat to the event, which was awesome of her. Each of them wore the hat at one point.
- After that, Shai, Nat, John, and Ansel took questions from people at the event. One of the girls who asked a question said after she read the book she was diagnosed with a type of cancer and started crying and each of them went and hugged her for a little bit. The girl asked her question, still emotional, and then they hugged her again. Shai gave her the cowboy hat and said “I think that’s yours now,” and the girl said “thank you so much,” and walked off stage.
- At the end when they were getting ready to leave, the host said in a sing-song voice, “the stars at night, are big and bright!” and all of us clapped the tune and sing-songed/screamed in unison, “DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS!” The cast really liked that and Shailene said, “you guys are awesome!”
