Last Sunday morning after an accident that had occurred at church on Saturday night Lylah didn’t seem to be acting right. She had been hit in the head with a leather football directly. So we took her to the ER to have it checked out. At first she was diagnosed with a “brain bleed” and then we were transferred to [a] hospital where we were then told that this was not a “brain bleed” but that our little girl had a massive brain tumor. (The football had NOTHING to do with this it turns out) Obviously this was a HUGE shock to Tanya and I as Lylah has never shown any signs of this – in fact she’s shown the very opposite – we’re told by others and her doctor how amazed they are with her development both verbally and physically. We’ve been told that it has probably been there since she was in the womb.
As you can imagine we spent the following few days in absolute shock and fear. Scared of what was to come for our little girl and our family. She’s has been such a blessing to us. They conducted two MRI’s to confirm location of the tumor and also whether it had spread to other parts of her body via the brain fluids – thankfully it has not.
It is about the size of a orange and located in the ventricle system of her brain and thankfully NOT in the brain tissue itself. We’ve spoken with the surgeons and they are confident that they can get 95% if not 100% of it removed as long as none of it has attached to any main arteries – where in which case she would then undergo either radiation or chemotherapy treatments to kill what would be remaining. But that is yet to be confirmed until the time of surgery. They also cannot tell if it is malignant or benign until after it is removed and tested. They’ll not be doing a biopsy since it needs to be removed regardless – so they’ll just remove it and then run the needed tests. Her surgery is scheduled for Wednesday morning. The waiting is terrible – we just want this done but we are cautiously optimistic for her future and the future of our family.
So there you have it – our week summed up.
With that I’d like to take a moment to say how amazing our God is. He has been here with her through this on so many levels and I believe for a very long time (probably since Satan planted this thing in the beginning) protecting our precious baby girl. Putting certain things and events in place – for instance the fact that the football had NOTHING to do with this but alert us in some way to take her in to the ER allowing us to see this and treat it NOW and not in who knows a year from now when it might have taken her life. First and foremost thank you God for your protection in this cruel world.
We’d also like to thank all of you at once because it would be nearly impossible to thank each of you individually for your prayers. Prayer truly is powerful and effective (James 5:17). Laying in the hospital Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday seeing so many of you putting prayers out for our little girl was awesome – so again a HUGE THANK YOU from Lylah, Tanya and myself.
However, it’s not over yet, as I said we’re cautiously optimistic for her surgery next week and would like to ask for you all to keep her in your prayers throughout this process as one of the scariest parts is yet to come – she’ll be undergoing a nearly 9 hour MAJOR brain operation
