Christians on CS!

For a few pages back; 'I Kissed Dating Goodbye' is a Christian perspective on why you shouldn't date, and if you are going to date how to do it in a Christianly way. I advise you all to read it, esp. if you're in a relationship or are looking for one, Really, no matter what you should read it. :P It's fantastic and it really got me rethinking the way I've been living.

That reminds me. If you guys could be praying for me to be able to maintain my self-control when it comes to lusting after guys? After reading that book I realized that I was doing it ALL the time and it's very un-Christian-like. I have a friend whom I'm being held accountable (She has something as well, so we're accountability partners haha) but just some extra prayers and support would be wonderful. Thanks so much guys!

I already got my daily dose of 'your religion is wrong', I really don't want to hear more of it. This is an offensive sentiment to non-Christians whether you know it or not. Even if your intention is pure, and I do appreciate the good intention, I don't appreciate that you're telling me to follow your path, when I already have a path of my own.
Believe it or not, most non-Christians have heard more than enough (quite often so much that it's part of the reason they leave/do not join). If someone wants to know more, or join your religion, there's mounds of information readily available at any school, library, or church. Therefore, this sort of thing is not only offensive to those of us who are perfectly happy without Christianity, but is also not going to achieve anything aside from pushing buttons.

June, I know where you're coming from and how this really irritates you but please understand where they are coming from. They don't mean to hurt anyone or step on any toes. They did it out of pure intent. They didn't jab anything out. They didn't say you were wrong in believing what you believe in; they probably just want everyone to feel the joy they feel in Christ. As you pointed out, many non-Christians are super happy with their beliefs and that's wonderful. They do need to know that some people are happy with their religion as we are happy with ours.

I also notice that you along with others get very offended by this thread and things that are posted here. To tell you the truth, I would be banned off of CS if I posted on every thread that offended me but instead, I turn my cheek. Not everyone is going to believe what I or you or Sam believes so why should we go around being offended about everything we don't find up to par?

If you really need to get your point across June, next time, please pm the person.

They're praying (which is essentially wishing) openly, in a forum I read that I and people like me read, that will conform to your religion. A religion that made me miserable for the majority of my childhood. :/ I never said they couldn't pray here, she can pray all she wants, but just as it's inappropriate to pray for god to rid the world of everyone who dresses in purple clothing, it is also inappropriate to pray for non-Christians to be like you. It implies that we are lesser than you in some way and that we shouldn't exist. It's not a kind sentiment and it honestly does sting, especially after having two other people try to push Christianity on me in a similar way, just today.
Even though this is a Christian thread, this is a public forum and many non-Christians who enjoy studying religion do read this thread. It is not okay to post things that are offensive to us just because the thread is geared toward your crowd. I really don't appreciate being insulted on a forum I expect to be able to relax on, after a long day of other Christians telling me I need Jesus and I'm going to hell, which was made worse by the fact that I wasn't allowed to defend myself as I was on shift and my boss would easily have fired me for it. I live in a heavily Christian area and it's often made clear that I'm not welcome if I make my religious status known. I'm sorry this is turning into a rant, but I feel like I really need to drive home my point because this keeps happening and I am still subjected to the sting of things like this in a place where I shouldn't be.
If Christians honestly do love their neighbors and care for others, then you'll care enough to respect non-Christians be not praying for us to change. It is a small thing, but these small things build up and I'm honestly just very very tired of it. I just want to be left alone to observe your religious culture in peace without feeling like I'm being called out and insulted.

I like reading this thread, I like observing Christianity. I don't want to start harboring negative feelings towards the CS Christian community, or Christianity in general. Therefore, I am going to defend myself when I feel insulted here, because you guys honestly don't seem to realize how this sort of sentiment sounds to a non-Christian. To you, it might not sound bad, and might even sound kind, but to us, it feels like you're telling us that our religious paths are wrong, that we are wrong and that we need to change. No one in any of the other non-Christian threads ever prays to their god(s) or wishes for you all to change, so I don't see why we have to be subjected to it from you guys.
This is seriously the only thing I can really think of that I've ever asked you guys to stop doing, but since I do have to do it often and it's really the only time I come out of lurking, it may seem like I get annoying by a lot here, but really I don't the majority of the time, I like reading this thread. It's only when I see people ask for prayers like this that I intervene.
I honestly don't want any trouble, I'm just really really tired of feeling put down by Christianity and only want to promote more religious acceptance. You cannot pray for me to convert to Christianity and respect my (non)religion simultaneously. If you're praying for us to change, you're not being respectful of our (non)religions and that is not appropriate.

We do pray for people who are not saved. That is the way it is. How is saying that they are praying for non Christians offensive? That could be any number of people. They did not gear it to you are anyone else. So you do not need to be offended, all you need to do is walk away.

You would not be subjected to it if you did not read it. Its pretty simple.

I understand where you are coming from.....but if this religion made you miserable then by all reason you would not want to be on here.

Did they push it on you knowingly? If they did not then maybe you shouldn't be offended. Lots of people in my life make jabs at Christianity but I dont go and argue with them about it.

If we really love you then we will pray for non-Christians. Because only if we hated them would we not pray for them. Because if what we believe is true then we would try everything to make sure that people dont go to the bad place.

Me and no one else is trying to put you down.
I have been in a church where they put down other Christians. Other girls picked on me because of my clothes, my father, my sister, and everything. My type of Baptist religion, my eyes, my Heritage...Everything.

Atwood...I'm afraid I don't understand. We're not pressing our religion on anyone just by praying for them. We could be praying that they get their sickness cured. Praying for someone doesn't just mean we're praying for their salvation.
And even if we WERE doing that...it's in the Bible, which is our book of law that we follow.

1 Timothy 2:1-4 says...
I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

So what you're saying is that we shouldn't do what our God commands us to? Forgive me if I'm wrong, but that's how I'm taking this. You're telling us how to worship, and last time I checked...you aren't God. Mind you, you ARE in charge here on CS. So....we do have to listen to you. But when it comes to praying, which is a very personal thing to us Christians...why do you have any say in it? Because we just happen to be posting it here on CS? There are plenty of threads on here which bash the Christian relgion. No offense to you or anything, but I don't see you or any other mod going over there and telling them to stop bashing us.

Also...how is it offensive to a person outside of our religion? If they aren't even part of our religion, why should it matter if we're praying to a God that they don't even believe exists? It's not like we're saying that they're going to go to Hell (which, buy the way, is EXTREMELY offensive and completely unnecessary).

Please don't take any of that offensively or as a disrespect to you, as I'm really trying not to be rude and close-minded. I'm just very confused at the moment as to what you want us to do about this "problem".

EDIT: Looked at a few posts above mine....and I get where you're going with this, Atwood. I still don't agree with it, and I'm still kinda fuzzy on the understanding....but I do see that some people are taking this to the extreme and aren't really thinking about something before posting it, which in turn is angering other people on here.

It is stating that you're praying for conversion that is the issue here, not praying in general. Trying to convert others to your religion is not allowed on CS, regardless of whether your religion tells you to or not. What you do off of CS is your own business, but on CS you are not permitted to proselytize, including by posting about praying for their conversion. In this case, it was this particular sentence that was the issue:
