That sound you heard? That was me screaming.

If God WANTED us to be brainless piles of mush, DON'T YOU THINK HE WOULD HAVE DONE SO? No, instead we were made IN HIS IMAGE. We have brains that think. We do not follow blindly. We have a drive to explain and learn about the world around us. We have intelligence of our own unique brand; it is what sets us apart from the animals.

If you think that science is anti-Christian, you are a damned fool.

I'd better stop there before I get even angrier. But seriously, if we get on an anti-intellectual streak on here, I am going to shank EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU IN THE RIBS. ... ...in Christian love of course.

Just a lil side note, God wants us to believe in Him and come to Him as little children, just believing in Him. Yes faith is an important part of the Christian faith but its not everything. I believe God wants us also to investigate. Is the Bible true? Is it reliable? I think at some point of our walk with Christ, He wants us to examine why we believe what we believe and what makes it believable. I'm pretty sure God doesn't want us going around "Yeah I love Jesus...not sure if He even existed but yeah I love Him. I'm not sure if the creation story is true but hey, I'll believe it." I believe there comes a point and time like Paul talks about where you really begin to dig into the meat and stop taking in milk.

I am not saying that if you wake up and can't move you are being held by a demon, but I do believe demons exist, and can do that, if they so choose. I also find no fault in calling on the name of the Lord if you believe you are dealing with a demon, though I wouldn't assume anyone who has something strange happen is dealing with demons.

Eph 6:12 "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual [hosts] of wickedness in the heavenly [places]."
I'm so meeting Paul when I go to heaven xD

Your grace abounds in deepest waters
Your sovereign hand
Will be my guide
Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me
You've never failed and You won't start now

So I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine

The truth comes to those who believe. ~ Rough quote from one of my favorite Christmas movies.

Truths about the world we live in come from science.

It's a Christmas movie. Santa said it. It just went nicely with what she said. Sue me for quoting Santa.

I went to a sleepover at my friend Allyson's house (one of the three) without knowing this was going to be going on later, but sometime around 8, she said that we were going to use Wicken spells and use Pagen worship to summon\speak to ghosts\demons. I didn't actually participate, nor did I believe anything was going to happen at all, but with a bunch of failed attempts I thought she would give up. Instead she picked up one of the crystals (quartz I think) that my other friend had brought and used it as a pendelum and started asking questions to the 'ghosts' in her house, asking for the spirits to turn it one way or the other for a response. She got responses. The first time she did it, I'm not really sure what happened, but she got really weak and shaky and we had to help her downstairs, she almost fainted. As soon as she regained her bearings, she wanted to do it again! We refused to try it again for her safety any more. The next day, after her mom had left the house to go into town (she lives in the country) she decided we were going to do it again because she wanted to figure out what had happened to the spirit and why it was in her house. We did some research after she asked her questions and she and 2 of my other friends that had been there asked what was supposedly another spirit about its identity. When it gave completely different answers than the 'little boy' we had just 'contacted', they decided there were at least 3 different spirits in the house. I would've left early except my parents didn't answer the phone and didn't know how to get to her house. I just pray that she doesn't keep trying to contact the 'spirits' and neither do the other two that participated in it. Thank you!

I know this issue holds quite a bit of controversy, but I advise against praying for her.
If this is what she believes in you shouldn't try and pray to have her change her faith. She shouldn't pressure you into joining in against your will, but she should be allowed to practice her faith as she wants to. If she is a Wicca and practices Wicca you should not pray for her to convert away from this belief system, it is rude and disrespectful.
Unless she has asked for you to pray for her or you have asked and she has agreed it is unkindly. A word of advice, do not ever pray for someone who is not of the same religion unless they have agreed to it or specifically asked for it. I'm sure you wouldn't enjoy having a Satanist pray for you to convert some time soon and pray for you to stop worshi[pping God because they believe it unsafe for you. If this is what she genuinely believes in then let her be, please.

Maybe I should clarify something. I'm not trying to change her faith (though I wouldn't object to a change...), I'm asking for prayers that she stops trying to talk to this random 'ghost' child that lives in her house because she almost passed out from the last time she 'talked' to him. If she keeps it up, I'm just afraid she'll get hurt by some 'child' that supposedly died in her house when she tries talking to him. My other friends don't think it was a 'good spirit' so to speak because my other Pagen friends who have done this NEVER had those results. Ever. They always came away from it feeling 'energized' not weak or like they might pass out. I'm not asking for prayers for her to stop practicing her faith, I'm just asking for prayers that she stops trying to talk to someone dangerous. My apologies for the confusion.

During the Dark Ages the Monks would copy and preserve the scientific discoverys, ect. which helped bring us from the Dark Ages.
I could be wrong, but all I know is what my science books have told me. (Both Christian, and unbiased)

The Church does have a strong history of preserving scientific knowledge. There was a strong movement in Medieval monasteries to try and create a unified world view which led to some interesting creations. As far as I know the 'dark ages' are mostly blamed on the 'little ice age' that occurred, coupled with the fallout of the Roman Empire over-extending and splintering, creating lots of infighting.

Gregor Mendel, after all, was a monk :)

I can go digging around in my middle english literature notes for more examples of the unified worldview, but that might mean talking your ear off about Piers Plowman and other historical passion plays, haha. The legacy of the Church keeping knowledge around is very clear if you look at literary themes; it's why we have, for example, there are so many excellent sources of the Aeneid floating around. The literary theme of Britain being founded by a Trojan prince, mirroring Aeneas and Rome, is all over the place.

I'm afraid most of my knowledge is of the literary sort, but those are threads that can be followed. I believe the book "The Emperor of All Maladies" - a history of the study of cancer - has a few more chapters about medieval medical views, specifically focused on cancer.

okay, so one of my friends who is christian as well was talking to me and i guess we got on the topic of religion because that is our world cultures unit and we were talking about school. so she said to me " all people who don't believe in God are wrong" so I said to her "we must respect other people's religions, somewhere someone else may be saying the same exact thing about another religion." and she said "yeah, that's true. but they are still wrong" I don't know why this bothered me so much, I mean, shouldn't we respect other people's beliefs?

Yes, we should. At least, that's what I think. There's nothing wrong with other people's beliefs, we all have different opinions.

yes, but I still don't think she was right by saying that. and Jesus said to love our neighbors as ourselves, that the sum of the law is love, that people will know we are Christians if we love, etc. so, what if that neighbor was not christian? that wouldn't change for someone with the same beliefs would it?

Well, I wasn't there, but i think she was just stating that, if its her belief is about God and Jesus, ect. than someone else, who doesn't believe in God or Jesus, has to be, in her opinion, by default, incorrect.
Shes wasn't saying not to love them, or not to respect them, just that she believes differently from them, therefor it is her opinion that they are incorrect

This is probably going to end up in another debate, but what do you guys think about a daemon? It's basically your concience formed into a living creature. You talk to it sort of. It isn't a religion or a cult, but I just want to see what you guys thought.
