Temples need decoration? :V
Note I am not being entirely serious here, though I do have pierced ears and occasionally dye my hair with henna. I take the new testament admonishing from Corinthians to basically respect yourself and not give into detrimental self-harm - this includes things like not exercising/taking care of yourself. As for the old testament prohibitions - well, I don't keep kosher, sorry; Jesus made many of those rules rather moot. It's sort of like how I eat bacon with gleeful abandon. At the time, telling the Jews to not eat pork meat was really good advice, because of the sort of parasites that frequently are in pork. Similarly, tattooing and piercing was much riskier business - no autoclaves, little infection control, etc etc... so yeah, that was fantastic advice to the ancient Hebrews. But one of the whole points of Jesus giving Himself to save us from sin is that there's no longer such a thing as being chucked out of heaven on a technicality. Either you accept Him, or you don't; it's not going to suddenly be voided if you don't follow a little rule set in place before... like not eating shrimp or not eating pork or having pierced ears.
