I think I owe this thread an honest explanation since it's borne the brunt of a rolling discussion this evening.
Garrus texted me at 2am to get an answer for your questions on big bang theory and the evidence supporting it, and I gave as comprehensive an answer as I could before collapsing back to sleep XD. This is important to us, not better we're "right and you guys are not allowed to believe the Bible ner ner ner" but because people's lack of scientific understanding really affects us and our lives in a detrimental way.
I'm starting my career in Astronomy on Wednesday, the study of the stars and specifically how galaxies have been formed from theBig Bang. To do this, I need funding, the scientific community needs funding. It needs funding for it's work in all areas, including biology. biology includes medicine, which again relies on evolution to put everything in context. If the people handing out the money didn't accept evolution and wouldn't fund stuff for it we wouldn't be able to for example, make a new flu vaccine every year or understand and research treatment for cancer. If the same people didn't accept the big bang and that the universe is 13.7 billion years old I wouldn't be able to fund my research.
But these people who decide the budgets are voted into office by you, the people, and there's a real danger that people who don't understand science, like Michele Bachmann, will get in in the US. I've already attended conferences in the UK where scientists have had to remind politicians to consult them on scientific matters. It's really scary.
Our agenda therefore is to ensure the generation are informed about science so the US and other western countries don't go backwards.
Feel free to pm me if you have any questions.
Also I love Revelations :)
