It is not helped by the fact that if there's a gay character in a show, they're almost always guys and flamboyant. We just watched a show with a character like that,

And dad despises flamboyant guys no matter sexuality. It just contributes to the whole judging of people who aren't straight which is prevalent in both my parents.

And guess who's an only child who isn't straight and expected to end up marrying a guy and if she doesn't do that then she's a disappointment. While that is an option it is not the only option and I wish I could say that.

It is taking so much effort not to walk out there and slap dad and be like "your judgement is hurting me and you need to stop"
