Okay, so I'm an American citizen, and I have been one my entire life. I think that few things irritate me more than when ditzy teenage girls start gushing about how much they would love to have a boyfriend from the UK and then proceeding to describe a perfect, charming gentleman that only exists in fantasy novels. Typically this is followed by a horrid imitation of that shrill, stereotypical accent. Seriously? Brit boys are just as immature and obnoxious as the garden-variety American guy.

Which reminds me: I can hardly stand the devastatingly popular and ignorant belief that all English accents are the same. I have several friends in the UK, and they all sound very different and distinct. Usually, you can tell what town a person is from by their accent. There are just as many (maybe even more) distinguishable accents in the UK as the US. Sometimes, people from different parts of the country can hardly understand each other. It isn't a difficult concept to wrap one's mind around. Thank you.

I can relate to this more than I would care to admit to most people. . . I have struggled with disordered eating for years. most of the members of my immediate family are aware of this. I wish that they would realize that, for anyone with my condition, eating is difficult enough without being side-eyed whenever I eat and interrogated on a daily basis. In retrospect, it feels as though I sacrificed my right to be treated with respect and understanding when I came out to my family and asked for help.
