The Guide To "I Need Advice!" Threads.

Alright, so I've seen tons of thread saying, "I Need Advice!" I've seen some that don't really make sense or something of the sort, so I've decided to make a "guide" to helping you get advice. I'm tired of seeing some of these "I Need Advice" threads spamming up the boards because they are poorly written, so here are some tips.

Step 1: State your problem.
This is pretty self-explanatory. You should state your problem first, then go into explaining what happened. You don't want people to have to read this super-long paragraph, and find your problem writtin in the middle or end somewhere. Here's an example. (This was not quoted directly from a thread. I just made it up.)
I'm in an arguement with a friend, and I need help.

Here's what happened: (explanation here)

Wouldn't you rather see that than have to read through the paragraph, find the question, re-read it so you know what to look for now, THEN give advice? Believe me, it makes life easier.

Step 2: Explain your situation thoroughly.
Side-note: Remember the six most important questions: Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?
A lot of you ask for advise without even giving details. This is not good, and most likely will not get you any advice. Want an example? (This was not quoted directly from a thread. I just made it up.)
Help! My friend and I are in trouble! What should I do?!

As you can see, there's no information whatsoever that would allow somebody to help you with. What are you in trouble for? Did you really do it, or were you falsely accused? Who got you in trouble? What's the whole story? There's tons of questions that are not answered for this example. How could you possibly give advice if you don't know what to give advice for?

As you can see, it's hard to give advice to a post like that. Don't worry, it's not like people don't want to give you advice; it's just that they can't. Here's an example that would be easier to give advice to, but still isn't as good as what it should be to recieve proper advice. (This was not quoted directly from a thread. I just made it up.)
Help! My friend and I are in trouble!

My Math teacher started to yell at us, and sent us down to the principal's office. Now my friend's mom thinks I'm a bad role-model. Help?

See, this is a little better. It states the problem, and gives a small bit of information. It at least tells why your friend's mom thinks you're a bad role-model, but questions still remain: What are you in trouble for? What is it that makes your friend's mom think that? Was it really you who did it, or were you falsley accused? When did this happen? Even though this post is not as poorly-composed as the last one, people will still have a hard time giving you advice.

Finally, here is how one could get the best quality of advice. You should end up with a nice, long, descriptive post, explaining anything you could think of that has to do with the situation. Oh, and here's your example.(This was not quoted directly from a thread. I just made it up.)
Help! My friend and I are in trouble!

We were both sitting in Math class, talking to our other friends as usual. We were talking about a movie, and so I picked up my pencil and acted like it was a sword, and poke my friend's arm. It wasn't even a hard poke, either. There was no mark to be seen from it! Anyways, the Math teacher saw this happen, and called us up to his desk. He asked why we did that, and my friend said we were talking about a movie, and I was just pretending it was one of the weapons from the movie. The teacher sent us down to the principal's office for two reasons: "injuring and disrespecting another student," and "referring to weapon use in school."

The principal listened to both of our sides of the story. I was outside his office when my friend told the story, and vice-versa. He almost believed us -- until I accidentally said the name of the wrong movie. He gave us both detention for a week. I felt really bad since my friend didn't even do anything, but that wasn't even the worst part. My friend's mom doesn't want us hanging around each other anymore because his mom said that I am a "bad influence." Even though we both argue with it, my friend's mom still stands on her statement. I could really use some help.. I don't want my friend and I to be forced to relieve our relationship. Thanks you!

Do you see how descriptive that was? I'm sure you'd get more advice than from what you'd get from posting the other two ways to post it. It won't kill you to type two paragraphs about what happened, and if you really want advice, you should probably suck it up and type it anyways. Your brain won't melt. Your fingers won't fall off. So put in that extra little bit of effort and type!

And just to prove how more effective it is, I'll do a little comparison. Here goes!

Example 1:
Help! My friend and I are in trouble! What should I do?!

Who [was in the story]?
○You and your friend.

What [happened]?
???

When [did it happen]?
???

Where [did it happen]?
???

Why [did it happen]?
???

How [did it happen]?
???

Example 2:
Help! My friend and I are in trouble!

Who [was in the story]?
○You and your friend.
○Your Math Teacher.
○Your principal.
○You're friend's mom.

What [happened]?

Where [did it happen]?
???

Why [did it happen]?
???

How [did it happen]?
???

○Poked friend's arm with pencil.
○Accidentally said wrong movie name.

How [did it happen]?
○Poked friend's arm with pencil.

As you can see, there's much more information for the third example than in the first two. If you want a good level of advice, try posting like the third example.

Step 3: Be patient.
Don't worry, people haven't forgotten about you, so please stop bumping up your topic every other minute. Some people are better with relationship advice, others with family/friend advice, and others with better advice for other topics. You can't forget that people have their own lives to tend to outside of ChickenSmoothie, and not every single person is going to flock to your post. So once again, please stop bumping up your posts constantly; it doesn't have to be the first topic on the forum to be answered. If you're understanding and patient, others will be the same way. There are tons of awesome advice-givers here on ChickenSmoothie.com, so just wait your turn, because you can't forget that there are others who want advice as well.

Thank you so much for reading this guide. Hopefully this will clean up the forums a bit. Oh yeah, and I almost forgot! If you'd prefer to not make an entire topic just to ask for advice, there's some great threads that are just for advice-giving. Here's some of the links. (If you'd like me to remove the link, please PM me. ;3)

~This advice thread (xD) is a great place to go for advice that you'd rather have somebody with experience answer your pleas. Everyone here is kind and mature, and give great advice. If you need advice about growing up, ect., then you should check out this thread.

Again, Mods, if you'd like to edit, lock, or delete this thread, feel free to! I just figured that it may help clear the board a bit. Posting is always open for everybody, but this isn't the place to ask for advice. Please go to the respective threads, or create your own. If you know of any other threads that give advice and you think they should be posted here, feel free to post them! :3
Also, if you believe there is something I should add or I have forgotten, please post this as well. Thanks! ^-^
