Dear Mom,

I'm so sorry I actually tried to help. No, I don't know what your body feels. I know you've been sick for a while. I know you don't like it. But, I tried to help you, and you didn't even appreciate. No, you know what you did instead? You cussed me out, called me a dike, and told me that you hated me, and that it was so obvious that I liked girls and not guys. I don't appreciate that. None of that's true. You made me cry. A lot. Why do you do that? Why is it that when you feel bad, you have to make me feel bad too? I've been so depressed, I've felt this way since sixth grade. That's a long time. I want help. I've tried to tell you so many times, please take me to therapy, please get me help. I don't like feeling this way. You don't know how I feel, just like I don't know how you feel. I don't have a dad. He's dead. And you'll be too, if you don't stop drinking. You're sick, because you have alcohol poisoning. If that gets in your blood, it could kill you. That's why I keep trying to help you. I don't have anyone after you. I have my grandparents, yeah, but my grandfather's awful. First of all, he's blind. Second of all, he drinks just as much as you do, and he's very aggressive, on top of that. I've gone into full panic attacks before over there, I don't want to have to live there if you're gone. Why do you not realize that? When I tell you how I feel, you tell me to get over it and you had it way harder than me, so I'm just being selfish. Yeah, I know. I know my life's not as bad as other people's. I know. But that doesn't change anything. I'm just upset. I wish things could change, but they won't. And my grandmothers no help. She tells me to 'just pray' and that 'God will help me'. No, God won't. I don't believe in that petty bullcrap, because I've tried that for years and nothing's happened, so I've given up. And when I tell her that, she accuses me of being an atheist, and says 'the sweet little girl she always loved' died. Yeah, she did die. You know why? It's not because of the music I listen too, people that have influenced me, or me being in 'that teenager phase' like you say. It's because I'm tired of helping people and being nice to people that don't give a fudge in the first place.
But you know what? None of this will ever stop me. I'm not gonna sit here and mope around anymore and hate myself. I'm gonna love myself and be proud of myself, something other people don't do for me often. I'm gonna take care of myself. I'm not gonna inflict pain on myself, or sit here and talk about how worthless I am, because I know I'm not. Quite frankly, I love myself, despite how you, my grandparents, people at school, or anyone sees me. I know I'm not a lesbian. If I was, so what? I've met girls that like other girls before, and wanna know something? They're awesome. So, you can stop being homophobic. You can stop telling me you hate me. You can stop saying I'm ugly. You can stop calling me fat. You can stop calling me a goth kid. You can stop all of it, because you know what? From now on, I'm not letting that get to me. You're only half the mother I know I'll be one day. I'll love my children no matter what they look like, no matter what they believe in, and no matter what their sexuality is. I'll love them more than anything else. I won't get drunk and sleep all day like you do. I'll be sober, hard-working, and understanding; Something you've never been.
