Underweight and Annoyed...

Postby AlteredReality » Sun Apr 25, 2010 2:03 pm

Well I was just wondering if there's anyone else who's underweight and is really annoyed about it >.<

I'm 15 and my height is somewhere between 5'5 and 5'6 but I only weigh about 91 pounds...I get really annoyed seeing everything around me about weight LOSS when I need to GAIN weight. I eat normally, although my appetite varies (as in, occasionally I'll eat more than normal or less than normal). I guess I just have a fast metabolism. And I'm tired of people who say I'm lucky or that I have it easy when in reality, I hate feeling like a weakling.

I would really appreciate it if anyone has some advice to give. I would love to hear some suggestions for foods I should eat or maybe exercises I could do. I've been trying to drink milk lately but it doesn't seem to be helping and please don't comment if you're just going to tell me to eat a bunch of junk food and sit on the couch all day...even when I do that nothing works.

So if anyone else is in this situation I would love to hear some tips ;)

Have you tried talking to a doctor or a nutritionist? I'm sure they would know much better than us..

Yes my doctor has recomended that I drink stuff like Pediasure or whatever but I can't stand how they taste. I'm in no major danger or anything but it just gets on my nerves being so skinny.

Haha, don't worry, you're not alone.

I'm 14 years old, amd 5 feet and 2 inches, and I weigh 85 pounds. Even though I love to go outside and play tag, I never get to because my brother won't, and I can't do anything without supervision. >,<
So I'm usually on CS, I eat normal (except for one night when I was really stressed, I skipped dinner), and even though I want to, I don't get enough excersise. And I can't gain weight.

But don't worry, just because you're skinny doesn't mean you're weak. I'm not very strong when it comes to fights, but I can do very well in gym class. I tied for the most push-ups in the girl's division last year in seventh grade with an eighth grader (36 push-ups, and you had to touch the teacher's hand that was flat on the ground with your chest), and I came in first in the girls division in the mile run. Yet I still don't have muscle. x3

But, I'm pretty sure if you work out, you'll add on some muscle and weigh more. There's tons of things you can do to get muscle: bench-press, push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups... Tons of things. Some schools have after-school trips to a local gym, or you could just improvise and use house-hold items to lift, use as your puch-up marker, etc. Even though you're excersising, you could still gain weight from putting on muscle.

Hope this helped!

I used to be about 20 pounds underweight for my age and height (I've gained weight since my visit to the nutritionist), and unable to gain weight even though I eat like there's no tommorow. I talked to a nutritionist, and he gave me some strange reccomentations: I had to take supplements three times daily, which included a mineral complex, vitamin B, and the Amino acids L-tyrosine and L-glutemine. He also reccomended that I eat less bread/starch (and to my delight, less chicken), and more turkey and beef.

Try changing what you eat during meals-- everybody's nutritional type is different and you may be able to gain weight if you try changing your nutrition from the usual. ^_^

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll definitely take it into consideration.

@Shadow: That's interesting that you were told to eat less starch because most of my favorite foods are full of carbohydrates and starch D: Guess I'll have to work something out :P

"eat more do less"

I'm 28, under 5 feet and fluxuate between 83 and 86 pounds. so i can't help. my eyes are bigger than my stomach and some reason I am almost hungry all the time but cannot fit more food in me.

i guess the doctors can help and know more, about your physiology and bio-needs, caloric intake needs and metabolism .

When I was younger, I barely ate anything and I was round 10 lbs. underweight at the least. My mom made me drink nutrition drinks like that, and after a while, they started tasting awesome. XD And I gained weight and got healthier. I'd recommend doing that, or whatever else the doctor says.

I also have issues with uhh... "forgetting" to eat meals, but yeah.

No. That's just unhealthy. You might gain weight, but eventually you'll gain it at unsafe rate if you only do this. Then you'll wish you were as skinny as you used to be.

Cheetahfly wrote:I know how you feel. I'm 16 5"5 and weight about 102 the last time I checked. Being skinny is not fun. I barely have any upperbody strength and I'm phisically weak. Even though I try to eat I've had a problem with being underweight seince I can remember.

Just because you're skinny does NOT mean you have to be weak. Are you excersising regularly? Read the post I posted. It's not like you can't do what other people can. You don't realize what some people would give to have a skinny build. So you should probably take advantage of that, and show them that you ARE strong, whether you look it or not.
