The reason the Titanic hit the iceberg was(quite from Violet Jessop's memoirs): "... impenetrable ice field..." and "...Californian(A boat who was about 10 miles away from the Titanic when it sank) had been drifting without power in the ice. In other words, Captain Lord(Of the Californian), who had never encountered severe ice conditions before, was doing exactily what Captain Smith(Captain of the Titanic), his opposite number aboard Titanic, should have done but did not: Stop his vessel until morning.
