The Titanic

Postby mirage. » Fri Apr 16, 2010 1:38 am

Yesterday, I was chatting online with a few people and Kaycee told me it was the day the Titanic sank. That led me to think more about the Titanic. I mean, I've went to an exhibit, an iMax documentary, but I just sorta learned the facts. I never really thought about it.

Not being able to breath (drowning, choking) is one of my greatest fears, and I can't even begin to imagine how terrified the people must have been. Not to mention, the water was unimaginably freezing.
Also, when the first lifeboats were loaded, the ship didn't seem to be much in danger so people were reluctant to board them, which resulted in the first lifeboats often coming down only half loaded. It's terrible to think of all the people who could have been saved.

I know. And the last survivor died in 1997. 3: I read it in a book and I have seen the part where the boat is full of water and everyone is freaking out. But I haven't seen the whole movie though. \:

The movie is my all time fave <3
It was such a horrible thing to happen, not to mention how inefficient the process of getting off the ship had been. I've always had a fear of the ocean, so something like this would be one of the most terrifying things I can imagine happening. There's no where to run, nowhere to hide, you just have to hope that there are enough lifeboats

I used to do a lot of research on the Titanic. It's very sad, especilly where they only let women and children on. They considered men any boys above ten, so many children died.

I went to a meuseum and they had a thing you felt that showed how cold the water was, and it was so cold it felt like my hand was burning.

it was a very horrible moment in Americas history, but if this dint happen most boats woudent have the security and safety they have today. We learned a lot from this sad story.

Actually the last survivor died last year in England ;)
The last American survivor died in 2007.

The reason why most people didn't go on lifeboats was because they didn't think it was neccessary and they didn't want to leave their husbands or their sons aboard the Titanic, so they stayed on the ship with them.

The Brittanic was a bad one too. Have any of you heard of it?

The Brittanic (Perviously known as Gigantic, although it was changed because they didn't want it to be too much like the Titanic. Titan meaning HUGE) was the Titanic's sister ship and sank during WWI. That sank much quicker than the Titanic, although probably because it was hit by a torpedo.

I know. I did a report on an extraordinary woman, Violet Jessop. She survived the Titanic then later the Britannic. Not to mention childhood illnesses. That I believe would be just terribly horrifying, the captain trying to get his vessel to shallower waters, unaware of the carnage he was creating. Any life-boats with inexperienced oarsmen would drift back and be torn to shreds by the propellers.
