Being yourself can have serious consequences. Today's kids can be very cruel to anyone who does not meet their expectations.

i got made fun of in school for liking/drawing dinosaurs and cats by girls who, for a week found it trendy to drink out of baby bottles during class.

then they were all cooing and fawning over an elmo doll. yet if i wore dolphins or something on a shirt the'd make fun of me.

that and how it is cool now to wear flannal pants in public. "those are jkjafkjyufsduhg'ing PJ's you don't go to school in PJs, you just don't".

what? why? if that was me, even if i had medical reason to dress like a bum, but now 'omg yay cooolios" to dress like you never changed?

or the time i tried to put barrets between my shoe laces in hopes to start something. got made fun of. year latter i saw clip ons for that, but like for teens not little kids. or something stupid.

if you have power and status you can be yourself. if you are nobody and nothing. you need to mimmic.

Sometimes I think people act that way because you have the courage to be yourself, and you enjoy it. I am pretty sure those girls are never content with how they look, and they probably have to worry that their "friends" will make fun of them.

And we aren't saying wearing brand names and make-up is bad, I am just saying that if you just wear because everyone else is even though you might hate it, is hurting yourself.

But the thing is, some people ARE self-conscious, fad-following people. That's who they ARE. Some people simply are a make-up-wearing person. And that is them being THEMSELVES. You don't like make-up, that's who YOU are. So you can't criticize. :U

I agree with leNovacaine, I wear makeup and stuff to school. That is ME. I dont TRY to look a certain way or shop at certain places. Ill just go to stores and if I like something I'll buy it. Anyway, I might be gifted something like a new, in-style dress or something from some name brands ex/Abercrombie and just because I'm wearing it doesn't mean I'm following a trend.

I agree completely. Why not just express and enjoy yourself? I am 12, all the other girls cake on makeup and bring hair straighteners to school, whilst I wear none, and wear expensive sweaters and boots that everyone. else. has. I get a lot of crap for being an "emo" kid, but i don't CARE. I will wear chains and tight black jeans and colourful and black clothes and have bright converse on my feet and have hair in my face all I WANT.

I dress in ways that reflect myself. :3 I dye my hair black with highlights, I wear scene clothes. What doe sit matter? As long as you like the way you dress. I just wear what I liuke, as many people do.

I wear pyjamas in public, because I'm lazy. Other people wear it because they like it. Does it matter? People do what they want in this society. If they want to fit in ,that's what they'll do.
