I don't think the world will end in 2012. I mean seriously, a calender has to end sometimes. So since the Mayans were astronomers, they chose an important astronomical date(i.e. solar flares, the planet alignment). Although, I can't wait to watch the news that day. People will be freaking out and stuff.

edit: I think the world might end with us killing ourselves off. Mounds trash everywhere, places by the ocean underwater and all the coral reefs gone. Luckily efforts are being made to save the planet, but I still think we'll have to do a lot more.

first of all the mayans ARE NOT stupid. they were just lazy and didn't want to start a new one. the press made a joke up and then all of a sudden BOOM!, a new movie came out and what do u know, a joke starts to happen. what i am trying to say is you shouldn't can someone "stupid" if you don't really know the facts yet. like me someone hacked MY account, my evidence, i didn't know that person, i didn't send THAT trade, why would i give my most beloved pets out for free?, and why and how did they take them when they were in a locked group. my point was made. period.

Well here's my thought. My mother told me that they kept saying "the world is going to end in 2000, 2002, etc." and it has never happened. So I don't think it will end, unless my words are speaking wrong. I usually say, I won't know, it all depends on the future.

Okay, Nonia, I'm really superbly sorry if I offended you, but I DID do the research. In fact, I DID A PROJECT ON THE MYANS AND THEIR BELIEFS. So don't tell me if I know if they are stupid or not, its just an opinion. Quite frankly I think that they're religions are a little wack, and like I said, it's just an opinion.

I put I don't know, because afterall, it could end in 2012. It could end this year, or maybe 100 years from now. No one knows... its just kind of funny how everyone freaks out because of a calendar.

No, I don't believe it will end in 2012. But who knows? Only God knows when it'll end, I don't, and no one can know for sure except Him.

I feel I must say something here.
a) this topic has been dead for months, please don't grave dig.
b) you guys obviously don't know much about this do you? the Mayans weren't stupid, nor were they bored. the Mayans calendar is meant to repeat itself just like every other calendar. the hype about 2012 is about equivalent to me looking at my calendar on Dec. 31 and realizing that the calendar ends that day, freaking out and believing the world will end instead of simply getting a new calendar. the Mayans ended the calender on 'the end of an age of man' which happened to also be the day of a planetary alignment. Planetary alignments have happened before, and nothing happened, why should it this time? exactly. it's no more likely the world will end 12/21/12 then today or tomorrow, or 5 seconds from now.
