I have an indoor track meet tomorrow and I realized that I'm supposed to use blocks tomorrow but i never got taught how to use them because I had to practice pole vault instead. I'm only doing the sprint at this meet because my pole for pole vault hasn't been delivered to the school yet. So would I be able to learn quickly how to use blocks before the meet starts tomorrow? I'm only gonna need them this meet, so should I be ok if I practice with them for about 10 minutes before the meet starts? It's for the 55 meter dash.
Hello ^^
I run the 55 Dash, and recently my coach has been drilling blocks with us.
You will probably be able to get a little bit of the hang in 10 minutes, but your form may not be perfect.
Before you start, Fall forward. The foot you catch your self with will be your back foot in the block stance.
Your blocks should be a comfortable setting where you place your hands before the start line with your shoulders vertical to your forward knee. You should not feel scrunched, but not too open. Start with your head relaxed and down.
So, The Commands-
On your Mark- Kneeling in the blocks setting your hands on the line
Set- Butt in the air, ready to go
Go- Use your arms opposite to your legs to propell you out of the blocks. Drive your knee out of the blocks forward, and gradually lift your head up. Do not stand straight up out of the blocks or you may not have any drive (:
