Track tryouts caught me completely by surprise! There was nothing posted on our school website or any indication that there would be tryouts, so on Monday, when my friend told me that tryouts were that day, I was completely unprepared. I haven't been running, and that day I hadn't brought any running clothes, so my mom had to bring my clothes and shoes to school for me xP

Well, since I had thought that we might have a month or two until tryouts, I hadn't -cough- been running much at all, so time trials the first day were torturous embarrassment. I got 30 seconds slower than my PR and it was terrible. I had no friends on the distance team. During cross-country, we do intervals around the track on Mondays, the workout that I always detest the most. I'm not sure what quite possessed me, then, to join the distance team in track seeing as it's my least favourite workout during cross-country season.

Needless to say, after one day I'd had enough. I didn't think I could tolerate that every day, so I joined several of my friends at pole vault. I can't sprint at all, it's a bit funny actually, and I don't think I would have any skill in shotput or discus, so pole vault was pretty much the only option. My mom was number one in her city in track and field when she was my age, and her best event was jumping, but it doesn't look like something I'd particularly enjoy doing.

I didn't initially plan on joining pole vault because I was afraid that, if I decided to try it ( and I wanted to try it, it looked like so much fun watching the pole vaulters last year! ), and I was bad, I would be so far behind the distance runners in terms of training that it would be much too late to join distance and I'd be left without a sport for the springtime, which is exactly the opposite of what I wanted to do.

But I did want to try pole vaulting at some point, so I did on Tuesday, and it was actually really fun! I'm not very good at it but I'm hoping I'll get better. I think I'm going to stick with just pole vault this season. Any of you out there who have pole vaulting experience? I feel like there's some reason why I'm not very good, maybe I'm not doing something right? Or if you just want to share your records, that's cool too ^^

We didn't vault today- since I'm from California, track and field practice is outside- because we've had quite a bit more rain than normal this week. It actually poured today ( by Southern California standards, I'm sure all of you on the East Coast would call it a mere drizzle xD ), so the box where the pole goes flooded with water and I don't think it's such a good idea to pole vault in the rain.

Oh oh oh I pole vault!! It's the most fun I have ever had in my whole life. It's so fun. I had trouble too in the beginning but it gets easier as you get more comfortable with it. When you land on the mat, are you hitting the center of the white box thing? I know I had trouble with that in the beginning.

What events do you run? The ones held at my middle school, I'm a middle distance runner.

What are your times? I don't remember, I haven't been in track sense last year but I plan on joining again this year.

Which races do you like best? I enjoy watching the jumpers, leap hurdles... until someone gets hurt.

Do you have a meet coming up? Were practicing this coming Monday.

Are you a long or short distance runner? Middle distance.

What's the longest distance you've run? during practice, eight laps, so two miles.

Do you run XC, track, or both? Ummm... I'm sorry I don't understand this question.

What are some good running tips? Always put yourself to the test when it gets tough you know your gaining skill,

What are your greatest running achievements? I start out slow, but can get going quiet fast... don't know if that counts..

Famous meets you've been to (and run at) No... I didn't get chosen...

Injuries and how to deal with them: If anyone is ear by you, ask them to get the coach, the coach will drive you over to the nurse in an golf cart.- happened to my friend once she fell on an hurdle.

Your goals for this season: To improve my speed, and stamina , and to break my records from last time if I can remember them:P

Well this is my first year doing track. It was an option last year and I signed up for it but they were full :( so I tried again this year. I am a sprinter but I am not near as fast as the others. But somehow I got picked to go to this weeks track meet. I ran a 1x400 ( I don't think that us how you say it. Like i said, I'm new. So I ran a relay with 3 other girls and all together it was a full 400 meters. I also did the same just together it was two laps. So we each ran 200 meters.) so at the meet, one if the girls told us to go stand by where we were going to start. They didnt bother to tell me that our race was next. So since it was my first meet ever, I didn't know what to do. I couldn't find the tennis balls to set up for the baton pass or anything. So I found a random tennis ball and started doing my steps just so I could be ready for when it was our turn to run. Well I was doing my steps when next thing I knew, here the girl was handing me the baton! I was NOT ready! So I had to make an awkward take off. Then when I got to the third leg (I was second leg) she took off too early and was going super fast. So I literally had to chase her around the turn! She was half way done with her run before I got the baton to her!! It was humiliating!! We obviously came in last place and the girls in my relay were not being good sports. They all avoided me and blew me off. When I needed help with something, they would just tell me to go figure it out. I wanted to go home and cry. So track has not made a good impression on me, but hopefully it will get better!

Okay! Hmm, I can but I'm not very good at it. I feel like I'm not jumping high enough, but I'm also not quite sure how I could get more height.

Don't worry, the more you do it, the more comfortable it gets, the easier it is to try techniques. At first, I wasn't jumping very high, but then you learn techniques to jump higher.

I ran a 5:24 in the 1600 and a 11:54 in the 3200 yesterday! I'm so excited because those are both PRs for me. How has everyone else been doing meetwise?

Our first meet is April 9th, after spring break. o:

Guys, track practice has been killing me. They've been conditioning the heck out of us, and it's gotten to the point where I've had to sit out because it hurts to stand and it feels like I'm going to puke. I know I need to work on the proper form for sprinting, but part of the reason why I think I've been having trouble with that is because I have scoliosis, a curvature of the spine, so it makes it a bit difficult to assume proper form without straining my already messed up back.

But they're really being hard on us, and honestly, I thought I was a lot faster than I actually am, and I'm debating if track is really the sport for me... I mean, in its core, it's really fun, but I've been having more trouble than I think it's worth. I literally cried today because I was in so much pain after track ... the fact that I had killer period cramps wasn't helping, but yeah.

    What should I do? ;~;

I want to keep doing track because I want to improve and because it really is fun to run. But I'm one of the slowest ones after thinking I was fast, and if it keeps up like this with all the conditioning I'm not sure how much more of this I can. Some guy waiting on the side of the track even said "She's slower than Serena!" which is basically an insult because Serena is a girl on the track team and I'm not sure why she joined, because she doesn't even try at all whatsoever, she just jogs on the turf and ignores the coaches..... So... idk. I'm torn.

I've had a couple meets so far. Both were small, but that's a good way to start out. We have a new coach this year, which has actually been a blessing in disguise so far. At first, no one on the team liked him, but he's actually doing some great things to the team, and we have all PRed in at least one event already. A good friend of mine PRed in her 1600m run at the very first meet, beating every years races prior. It was pretty incredible. As for me, I've been trying out completely new events. One of the coaches last year is also the XC coach. Being an XC runner, I was immediately pegged as a distance runner for the season. This year, however, the new coach put us all in events we have never done before, to see if we had hidden talent somewhere. So I ran the 100m & 200m for the first time. Since then, I have almost been completely switched over to a full-time sprinter. Apparently, my first ever 100m & 200m times would take the win at my league race right now owo
Granted, everyone is still warming up, so the times haven't really dropped a lot yet, but my coach thinks that I can drop some time and keep it in my sights, and maybe even pull a spot to states.

Our team is doing pretty well so far this season.
Our track season has started already.

For us, we do not have an 'off season' with conditioning between track and xc.

I've been competing in the mile & 800.
I love the mile, I hate the 800. :'c

I was got back like three weeks ago after six weeks off for an ankle injury, and I already have a foot injury that we are working with.

With my team, we are breaking school records that haven't been broken in years. Some haven't been broken since the 60s. One of our freshman boys won the California subsections race. c:

We have one all of our league meets so far, generally.
