Maybe they were trying to catch their cat, to take it to the vet or something? Maybe something had been fighting with their cat and they wanted to trap it. Regardless, your cat was roaming at large and went into an animal trap on someone's private property. Then your mom trespassed to get the cat back. And how do you know your cat wasn't caught after the home owners went to work, and they hadn't been home to check the trap yet? Hopefully they weren't trying to catch their cat for w/e reason, maybe it is severely injured and needs the vet, or needs medication, because your mother has now made it quite clear that someone trespassed and made it impossible for the trap to work. If I were your neighbours and were trying to catch a nuisance animal, I'd start putting out crush traps after that little trick your mom pulled.
Since you obviously don't know what indignant means, here's a definition.
in·dig·nant
[in-dig-nuhnt] Show IPA
adjective
feeling, characterized by, or expressing strong displeasure at something considered unjust, offensive, insulting, or base:
Thus. You are indignant, and you shouldn't be. Your neighbour was in the right and, in my area anyway, you/your family broke at least 2 laws.
Okay, I know what indignant means, and I'm not that. I am angry that someone captured my cat, not offensive or insulting. Though who wouldn't be displeased if they found a cat in the cat trap? You may be right about something else fighting their cat, because there is this black and white cat who fights our cat, but I think she is a stray. You are right; it was wrong that my mom trespassed, but what else could she do? You maybe are right about her not being caught for very long, but my mom also saw the people's cat, and she never said it was hurt. Also, my mom didn't want our other cat to get caught. Yes, I'll talk to my mom about the trespassing, though I'm assuming that was her first thought, and she went with it. Sometimes, our instincts get the best of us. What is a crush trap? Are those the traps hunters use for bears, foxes, wolves () and such? If so, I wouldn't suggest using those, because they might hurt another cat. Which law would my family have broken except for the trespassing one? I also had nothing to do with this, my mom did most of it; I'm just concerned about my and other people's cats.

zboe wrote:My neighbor does this. I honestly HATE her strong word and I dont like to think I hate anyone but she is the exception. She just hates cats, she has two parrots a Quaker parrot and some giant parrot and she traps the cats because she feels she has a right to allow her parrots out on her deck and outside while shes off doing whatever, basically she lets them out unsupervised. I used to think she was really nice I loved her dog Taffy and she was always very friendly to me. I then found out what she did/does, she lured cats into traps with tuna fish and takes them across town (about 30 minutes away when we have a nice shelter that rarely puts down animals because of the good foot traffic they get) to a shelter that is a high kill shelter and gets a large amount of feral cats. She told us ''well I dont know if their feral or not so I tell them they very well may be because they sure arent friendly to me when I go out to get them'' What do you expect lady you trap them in a cage they arent going to be like ''I love you your my best friend'' they scared no their terrified. She wants these cats killed, so her parrots can go out on her deck. She knows/knew our cats weren't feral she catches her neighbors cats and says ''well I have taken the cats back to their owners before and you know what they yell at me for giving them their cats back so I dont do it anymore'' well duh your catching their cats in a trap I would yell at you too. This lady claims to catch 30-40 cats a week I have not seen more than 20 cats in my entire time Ive lived in this neighborhood which is about 8 years.
Also it is legal for your cats to have free roam in my city there is no laws against it.
I have had two cats go missing since we have lived here she wouldnt tell us if she caught either when we went to talk to her, I think after our first cat went missing she stopped taking them to the shelter she took them too before, she hated my cats and complained about them sitting on the fence watching her parrots multiple times -_- Oh and how we found out about her trapping cats her neighbor stopped by our house and said that she had heard traps going off in the lady's backyard and cats freaking out. I wouldnt mind her catching cats so much if it werent for the fact that she refuses to try and find the owners and takes them across town to kill shelters.
falloutboyfan wrote:My neighbor down the street uses live traps for cats. She has a beautiful pond with really expensive fish, well they look expensive. Anyway, I don't mind that she uses the traps at all! Actually its a blessing, in my case. My family has three cats, two of which born/raised outside until we adopted them. So, of coarse, they try to get outside, and occasionally they succeed.
When I first heard that she was trapping cats I was really worried, I'll admit, since our county shelter is always overfilled and I was frighted one of our cats might end up at said shelter. I actually talked with the neighbor about her trapping cats, she explained exactly why she traps, her prized fish being killed left and right. She was really nice about giving her reasoning too. She informed me she makes an effort to find the owners' of the cats she occasionally catches and if no one claims them within the week she does send them to the shelter.
She promised me if she ever came across cats, that I described as my own, she wouldn't send them off to the shelter. She'd give me a call. She actually trapped my Boots the first time he escaped. I was so relieved when I got the call!
What I'm trying to say is, maybe your neighbors are simply trying to protect what is rightfully theirs.Maybe they enjoy bird watching or maybe they don't want any cats possibly spreading diseases to their cat. You never know why they trap, unless you ask!
You can also ask them if they trap your cat ever, who really should stay indoors, if they can give you a call before sending it off to the shelter. With that being said though, if you think your neighbor is trapping cats for money, why do you allow your cat to get out?
