I should rephrase that but I can't quite figure out how. So, uh, raincheck on that.
They aren't at all minor! Size does not make something minor.
My rats have the kindest, sweetest, most loving hearts I have ever seen, and souls full of life and light. They have emotion- they suffer, they mourn, they love.
These little faces? of course they have souls-

I have watched them mourn the dead, show fear and love and excitement, care for others. An animal without a soul will not do that. When my rat's friend was dying they never left her side. She had cancer that eventually blocked her ear canal, causing it to be infected, and killed her eye. The other rats cleaned her ear for her, washed her eye, and slept next to her since she got cold easily when she got worse. When I brought her body home from the vet, they all ran to see her, then stopped. Then slowly approached and started licking her face- they seemed like they wanted her to wake up. It was hard for them to loose her. They knew it was coming, but they still seemed upset.
These same "minor" animals have cared for me for years. They try to "help" me with things, like grooming tangles out of my hair, and if I cry, they clean the tears from my face. They love to cuddle, and to snuggle, and they know me from other people. They become excited when I come into the room and they treat me like family.
Things without souls do not care, love, or show compassion. It doesn't happen.
