I have a german shepard x lab and she's the cutest and friendliest thing :3 I had a beagle once but she was so hyped up and she was a hunting dog so we had to rehome her, she was so friendly though :) any kind of collie is gonna need to be walked ALOT or they'll get restless, I would reccomend a german shepard, (long haired if you like fluffy dogs), they're loyal to their owners, friendly and good guard dogs, they're intellegent and GORGEOUS :3 alot of people don't like them because they're known as vicious but they won;t be unless you train them to be, they're used as quide dogs so they can;t be too angry :) my moms terrified of dogs and was really worried about getting a gsd but she loves the little baby :)

This looks like my old dog Ebony, I loves it :D

They tend to get colds a lot, symptoms like stuffy nose and pink eyes, also they have mini-seizures sometimes, but it is a common thing for them and doesn't harm them.
All in all they are great dogs and although they have a few health risks they make a great addition to a family :).

I am not really a big fan of beagles, sorry. My cousin's dad's ex-girlfriend has one and it really isn't healthy. I don't know why they don't put her down. She can't walk, he tongue won't fit in her mouth, and she might have cancer. But she has a big lump on her eye. She is suffering and I can't stand to see her like that.

I also am trying to stay away from hunting dogs, even though many dogs I like are hunting dogs. I think I should stay with herding dogs or lap dogs for now.

Weird...o-o you should get a blue-tick beagle (no,they do not have ticks XD ) I have one i n real life, and she is one of the healthiest dog's I've ever seen. The only problem I've ever seen her have is that she had an ear infection once, but we put drops in it once every few days, and she got better! She's the cutest dog ever XD (not considering golden retriever puppies and bernese mountain dogs XD ) but she's a total food hog XD

Yea my friend has a blue tick mix and it is pretty cute ^^

German shepherds. I have grown up with them all my life and they are great and loyal dogs. So much fun to have around and really good with people, but don't wait to long to start introducing them to new people and animals. If you get them from a reputable breeder and treat them well, they should usually get along with other dogs. Although some of the ones we have had have been a little stubborn with training, but they learn and it's always been worth it.

I have two aussies a blue merle male 13 months and a red merle puppy ten weeks old. They are wonderful dogs high inteligence and obedience loving dependable. They are highly active though we do agility and sheep herding but i know others who jog, play soccer or even bycicle with theirs.
Okay so from now on I'm only collecting pets that can then be given away as gift bombs to random members. After finally finishing collecting all the monthly pets from 2011. And realizing that there was no way to get the last of the pets I needed. I got tired and wanted to quit. But then I decided I'd miss the fun of adopting new pets so from now on all my pets are being given away randomly. So please don't ask me for any for yourself. Also I keep track of bomb requests for other members so if you have someone you want bombed PM me and let me know. I may not gift them all but I will gift as many as possible. :)

Woodsy wrote:I have one dog I would never suggest. Don't get a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, they shed like crazy and they have a bark/whine called a Toller Scream. On the bright side, a couple of dogs I would suggest.

Belgian Tervuren- These dogs are very intelligent and are a type of Belgian Sheepdog. Their coats requires brushing twice a week and they need daily exercise. Their temperament toward humans is very loving and they can be protective. A Tervuren's coat is very adaptive to climate and temperature change.

Irish Red and White Setter- You may not like this one, but this is one of my personal favorites. This dog breed also requires regular exercise but has a more manageable coat. This breed is high spirited and kindly and should get along fine with any other dogs. The average height of a Red and White is around the mid twenties.

If you would like to know more, visit the AKC website or any other dog show pages. They will have anything you need to know. :)

I would not recommend you get a Tervuren unless you are able to give it almost around the clock stimulisation and a job to do. They need to work, and a walk around the block won't be sufficient for a fully-grown Belgian Shepherd of any variety (Tervuren, Laekenois, Malinois or Groenendael).
These dogs have drive for hours; I found a video on Youtube of a puppy and the owner basically warns that people who think they want a "high drive pup" need to take a good long look at his Malinois puppy. I'll try and find it. :3

I would say watch the above before considering any high drive breed, as it's shown me (I was thinking of getting a Mal in the future) how much work and effort goes in to raising a pup like that.

Hope this helped. <33

I'm thinking about a pitbull or cane corso. Do any of you have one or know a lot about them to share facts and stuff?

Pitbull is not an actual breed, but a name used for a range large selection of terrier type dogs. Wiki

If you are talking about the American Pitbull Terrier, it is not a recognized breed by the AKC. So getting a quality bred dog, with parents who are health tested and titled is practically impossible. Ignore the retarded BYB tags of, Red Nose, Blue nose, Ghotti, Colby, etc lines. Those prove nothing except that the person is not a reputable breeder.

If you are talking about the American Staffordshire Terrier, that's a different story. That is a recognized breed by the AKC. Reputable breeders health test and show their dogs. Prove their lines and quality. And that's what you should be looking for. Don't assume just because the dog can be registered with AKC paperwork, that it is a quality bred dog.

If you are looking to adopt a 'pitbull' then please, research research research. It is a very head strong, and hard willed dog. They have known dog aggression, which can be extremely difficult to control for an inexperienced owner. They are very tenacious and tend to have a high prey drive, meaning any small animal (including small dogs) can be seen as prey that they want to chase and kill. Owning one of these dogs takes a very dedicated person to make sure it doesn't become the next pitbull labeled as 'vicious' for attacking and killing the neighbors dog, or god forbid, for attacking and possibly killing another human. If you are serious about owning this dog, and aren't out to get one because of their look and how they can make you look tough, then prepare to find a good dog trainer immediately and make sure if you rescue that you find out EVERYTHING you can about said dog before you bring it home.

Cane Corso's are in the same boat as pitbulls. Wiki. And the same precautions with a pitbull/staffie needs to be taken for the corso. Everything I said up there is the same. Do your research.

Neither one of these 'breeds' would I recommend for a novice dog owner. They are so poorly bred because people want a dog that's tough looking dog to improve their image. And due to that demand, you get dogs who are severely unstable. Who show signs of illness, human aggression, and numerous other things that should not show up in the breed. If you aren't going to take the time to do y our due diligence for these breeds, to become an advocate of how the breed should be, and to refuse to become another owner who's dog is labeled because of the horrible actions it's committed, then please do not get either of these breeds.

They get a bad enough reputation from irresponsible owners. Don't think you can just bring one home, shower it with love, and it's going to be this perfect dog. Because it's not. Sure, giving the dog a loving and caring home is what you should do, but it should also include training and proper socialization for the dog. If you dog begins to exhibit dog aggression(which tends to happen around maturity, so about 2 years of age) then find a trainer/behaviorist to work with you to get it under control.

Now, I'm not saying all pitbulls, or cane corso's are going to be these huge, troublesome, dog aggressive dogs. I'm just saying to do you complete research on them before you bring one home. Be prepared, your dog may never develop these issues, but be ready for if it does.
